FlyinJ Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I have a couple of questions regarding things I can't seem to get working: First of all, is GBU-38 deployment. I finally sussed out how to effectively deliver laser guided munitions, but the GBU-38 and other JDAMs elude me. I've watched several youtube videos, and read over the procedure in the manual. Unfortunately, I don't have a HOTAS throttle, so I have to cross reference switch descriptions made in the manual with the keyboard remap control panel. In the manual, it says I have to mark the target as "SPI", by moving TMS Forward Long. I mapped TMS Forward (couldn't find "TMS Forward Long") to one of my flight stick buttons, but all it seems to do is toggle between "seek" and "point". If I have the target designated as "point", the GBU still will not drop in CCRP mode... nor does a bomb drop time line appear in the HUD. I have set up the profile correctly, as well as made sure my HUD master mode was in CCRP. Nothing seems to work. Another question: What is the HOTAS and Keyboard command for "slave seeker head to steerpoint"? I can't seem to suss out where that is. And lastly, as a more general question, how the heck are you supposed to engage AAA/SAM sites without labels on? It seems that the only way to find them is to get a threat warning on your RWR, but that only gives bearing (and then it's usually too late). Are you supposed to just slew your targetting pod camera along the ground in that bearing, or is there a more effective way to pinpoint these threats? It doesn't seem like I'm ever outfitted with HARM missiles or their equivalent. On a related note, what is the HOTAS and keyboard equivalent to switching between TV/infrared white hot and infrared black hot in the targeting pod? Thanks for any answers! It's awesome to be back in the sim world with this incredible product after so many years of not having a great modern jet sim.
winz Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 TMS Forward Long = press TMS Forward for more than 2 sec. other question: What is the HOTAS and Keyboard command for "slave seeker head to steerpoint"? I can't seem to suss out where that is. Only TGP can be slaved to steerpoint China hat aft long. Every other sensor can only be slaved to SPI - china hat forward long And lastly, as a more general question, how the heck are you supposed to engage AAA/SAM sites without labels on? Fly high, only poke low on dumb bombs delivery, and when you have to poke low, scann the are with tgp (you should do that anyway) and try to be exposed the minimal ammount of time. somethreats, like manpads, are almost impossible to spot irl, you have to assume that the target area is denfended and use flares preemptively during attack (default M program for CMS is best suited for this) On a related note, what is the HOTAS and keyboard equivalent to switching between TV/infrared white hot and infrared black hot in the targeting pod? Para_Bellum Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Actually, the HOTAS command to switch between TV/IR BH and IR WH is the BOAT SWITCH. China Hat forward short switches the zoom mode.
winz Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Yeah, disregard what I've had said. Writing faster then thinking ;) The Valley A-10C Version Revanche for FC 3
FlyinJ Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 Oh "long" means hold. Got it! Thanks for the responses guys.
FlyinJ Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 I still cannot get a GBU-38 to leave the bird. I set SPI through the targeting pod (TMS forward long). I make sure I'm in CCRP with the GBU-38 profile on my hud. I see the steering line, but i never get the pipper that shows time to release coming down it. I'm all lined up, hold down the button, and nothing releases. On the other hand, I can drop CBU-12's just fine, lasing the target and dropping them... drop time pipper appears fine on that steering line. Any advice?
MTFDarkEagle Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 The gbu-38 operates in a different fashion. As you might notice, there is a circle in your hud. This is your release que. The two triangles in the inner circle represent your drop-window. When you see "MAN REL" appear on the left side of the HUD, you are go for drop. (I can upload screenshot's of what I'm talking about later today if you still need so.) Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
