Hallo Nate -ILR-

Well- here I have just a small test so don`t pay to much attention about the model and texture please. I pray to god that you will find a way to bring it into the DCS engine- Thank you very much,

TOM

A lot of the new jets use .EDM format which overrides .LOM. If you are replacing the F-15 for example you drop in your .LOM but you must remove the .EDM model from the folder or the game will choose that one over your .LOM. Trust me. ;)

Hi,

one more little question:

I like to use PNG-files for textures with transparent pieces and sections. I did it in the past basecally for my last F-18C, F-15C and Rafale fighter. I exported my F15 model into the DCS engine ( of course the ED F-15 have so fu:censored:ing many polygons that a two ship of F-15 Eagle will bring down my system into "Frames per year"- tact ) but I had to realize that the engine wasn`t able to show all the PNG textures correctly.:sad_2:

So the new ED engine will use the old TGA format only?:pain: Or did I make some mistakes in my option setup by the game?

My graphic card is an ATI 5570 - maybe it could be possible that ATI make some troubkes in combination with PNG`s and the new engine?:detective:

My best wishes,

TOM

PS: That smileys are great - loving that

As far as I know, all .tga appear to be phased out for .png because of directx lack of future support for .tga. From what limited knowledge I know, the method of creating a .png is slightly different. was it made correctly and declared properly as a skin? one file format might have priority like the .lom and .edm issue. Maybe try removing all entries of other stuff as well. My best guesses

Interesting... never tried that. Does it allow for alpha channeling?

PNG's are different beasts than TGA's. There's no real alpha channel in the classic sense. Basically everything needs to be masked to a transparent base layer background. Then when you save it out, the alpha is created based on masking from color to transparent. It's pretty wonky, but not that bad. If you put everything into a single "group" layer, you can just mask that parent group and you'll be golden.

Well following that my question was going to be "then why aren't mine showing up," but I happened to find the answer myself just now. The brief (and not entirely sufficient) instructions in Russian were not very specific once I had translated them.

I suppose were I a professional I would have known where the files should go, but I haven't done much by way of installing 3ds Max plugins.

Posted (edited)

I use the plugin with 32bit max 2008.

All materials are assigned to a test object in max (Diffuse Color and Bump). The .bmp textures are in the TempTextures Folder. I press "M" to open up the materials and click on the material that i have assigned. I click the "Make Cool" button. Set now the pulldown selection to "concrete". I export the model (replace the generatorf.edm model for test) by doing file - export.

I cannot see the model in the sim!

When i open up the new .edm file with hexeditor and compares it to the available ones in the game. Here strikes me that my textures do not exist with the file endings (.bmp) like in original edm files.

Somewhere an error is there in it. Only where...

luckybob, have you a test .max file to a view for me, that works to export?
