loss of lazer

Some times after flying for a while i will lose the ability to shoot the vikhr rockets and the gun is way off. I will also lose on the heads up display distance to the targets. Is the laser range finder shutting down. If so what can i do to get it back. I havent been hit.

the lazer heats up...

you must turn it off when you're not using it, or after use it for a long time turn off and let it get cold and the you can back to turn it on.

The Shkval of the Ka-50 includes many devices.

- A high resolution camera.

- A electro-optical aiming system to track targets.

- Two low-powered beam-ride-laser (horizontal & vertical) to guide the Vikhr.

- A high-power range measuring laser system with 4.8 KW.

 

The range measuring laser is creating a lot of heat with 4.8 KW.

It has a tolerance of ±5m at 10Km.

This mean the laser beam have to "fly" 10km, have to be reflected from a camoflaged surface and have to "fly" 10Km back home to the Shkval.

 

On page 454 (13-4: Service limitations of I-251V Shkval) of the manual you can see the limits of the Shkval.

But how to handle this in flight?

You can't count the seconds, cycles and series while you are in the battle.

 

 

 

 

You have to do it like that:

 

- Find the switch [Laser Standby ON/OFF] on the K-041 Panel on the left side.

- Assigne this switch to a switch on your Joystick or Throttle.

-> By activating this switch the laser (Beam-ride and Range-finder) is on Standby (ON but not fireing).

-> By deactivating this switch the Laser is completly OFF.

 

- Let the switch OFF and fly into the target area.

- Switch on the Shkval (camera, not laser) and find some targets.

- Move the Shkval on the target and lock it.

-> [TA] will appear in the Shkval. This is the "automatic tracking" of the electro-optical-targeting-system and the Shkval will follow the target.

 

- Now activate the laser-switch to [standby] and lock the target again.

-> In the HUD a countdown of 8 seconds will appear. The range-finder is active and fireing for this 8 seconds and will create a lot of heat. (your first cycle is done)

 

- Now launch the Vikhr.

-> The beam-ride will be established to guide the Vikhr.

-> A new countdown will appear in the HUD. It counts the seconds till the impact PLUS 6 seconds. Till the countdown is counting the beam-ride is ON and fireing and will also create some heat.

-> The 6 seconds are a security thing you can use for your advantage.

- Once the Vikhr hit the target (and destroyed it) you should switch [OFF] the laser to cool it down.

- Once you shot all 12 Vikhr your 1st series is done and you "should" cool down the laser for 30min.

- So return to base to rearm, drink some coffee or vodka and fly back to the target area.

 

 

--> If you laser every enemy only one time with your 12 Vikhr and cool down the laser after each battle you should be able to rearm up to five times!

But there is a other.... tricky way to use (or not use) the laser:

 

Once the beam-ride is active to guide the Vikhr it is not possible to activate the range-finder.

The beam-ride will be active for 6 seconds after impact of the Vikhr.

If you'r attacking a convoy and the next target is just some meters away from the last target you can use this for your advantage to conserve a range measuring.

 

Do it like this:

 

- Let the switch OFF and fly into the target area.

- Switch on the Shkval (camera, not laser) and find some targets.

- Move the Shkval on the target and lock it.

-> [TA] will appear in the Shkval. This is the "automatic tracking" of the electro-optical-targeting-system and the Shkval will follow the target.

 

- Now activate the laser-switch to [standby] and lock the target again.

-> In the HUD a countdown of 8 seconds will appear. The range-finder is active and fireing for this 8 seconds and will create a lot of heat. (your first cycle is done)

 

- Now launch the Vikhr.

-> The beam-ride will be established to guide the Vikhr.

-> A new countdown will appear in the HUD. It counts the seconds till the impact PLUS 6 seconds. Till the countdown is counting the beam-ride is ON and fireing and will also create some heat.

 

- Once the Vikhr hit the target (and destroyed it) press and hold the [Target lock] button and move the Shkval from the destroyed target to the next target and leave the button within this 6 seconds!

-> The new target is locked, the range is nearly the same, you conserved a range measuring and the laser was not crating heat.

 

- Lauch the next Vikhr without locking the target again.

and in order to cool it, there is always a lake or a sea around the map. squat the shark and the shkval portions under for 2 mins and maintain hover. Oh and try not to get draggy on your way up..
