cichlidfan
I know most of you swear by TIR but I am still not sure. It seems that it restricts head movement and I wonder how it will work when I look over at my Helios monitor. I use a 27in main monitor with a 22in next to it with Helios. I thought I remember someone saying something about having to hold your head very still while flipping switches which sounds like it would really kill the enjoyment of using it. Just curious about your thoughts. Thanks in advance. Cali
You can set TrackIR up to where you can turn your head half an inch and it will look all the way behind you. You can also have it to where you move an inch and your screen wont move. I have only heard of a few people that didn't like TrackIR, compared to the many that love theirs. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
Kuky
Do not worry about it at all, the TrackIR 5 unit is very stable and you can adjust it any way you like... very sensitive... very little sensitive, you can adjust and curve the axis any way you like... you can even adjust it so enable any axis out of 6... you can have it so you can look up and not down... etc etc No longer active in DCS... Succellus
Yep track ir is a blast. I tund it for me in minimum time. The only thing its that until you get at ease with it you tend to tense your neck, more of fear of screwing than anything. Just set the dead zone the various progress points (very easy) and your set. bumfire
Restricts head movement ? How so, I dont notice it restricting my head movement. Aslong as you have everything setup good, their should not be any restriction.
xXstubbifiedXx
Your Helios setup uses broken out panels in the game, they're not going to move when you move your head with TrackIR so that's one problem solved. You can configure your TrackIR profile to be as sensitive as you want and there's also the bonus of "precise" mode. Basically it lowers all of the sensitivity with the push of a button. So lets say you have your profile working how you want normally, but if you zoom in on objects you find that it's too jittery. You can assign the "precise" mode button to your Hotas so that you can press that and instantly lowers the sensitivity and keeps your view stable. Then you can just press it again to return to normal mode, once zoomed out. It's really a great piece of hardware. It might take a few days to get used to, but once you do there's no going back. LawnDart
You can customize your "curves" for TIR any way you'd like 'em. There's also a "precision mode" that can be turned on/off which greatly reduces abrupt movements on the screen. cichlidfan
I downloaded the manual. Let me give that a read and see if I have questions. Thanks for the replies so far. I am curious about staying synced with the machine. Say you have to pause to get the door, dog, etc.... Yes, but if your TrackIR is off-center, just press the re-center button (you can choose any button u want) I pause my TrackIR sometimes when I land and rearm/refuel, so I can get up and do other things, like get food, bathroom break etc...... i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
pcalvert
I often just pause a game and put TIR down. Come back, put your headset on re-centre and off you go. Don't even think about using it now. I've had mine over a year now and couldn't imagine using a flight sim without it. Don't think about where I have to look. In RL - do you think about turning your head to look at something? I wouldn't think so.... thats what TIR becomes after a period of time..... completely natural. Best bit of kit I have ever bought. MTFDarkEagle
Not necessarily painfull. Though what helped me, I started with Wags's profile (it's circiling around here somewhere), and modified from there (it was pretty good for me to start with, so for me it took not much modification). WynnTTr
It doesn't restrict head movement at all. If want to look left, you turn your head to look left and the view goes with you. It's up to you how much you want TIR to turn. It's all personal preference so I'd suggest you have a look at adjusting your curves to your liking. I had a subconscious problem when I first got mine many, many moons ago: I thought that if I moved my head too much that TrackIR won't work properly. So I ended up looking down with my eyeballs at the KB while keeping my head still. Took me all of two days to realise that if I looked down with my whole head and then looked up TrackIR still tracks that and the view was centred again. You'll soon realise that if you're turning to look at something else then you're not looking at the monitor in front of you anyway so it doesn't really matter what's shown on screen so long as you get the centre view back when you look at the screen again. Latest TrackIR works great in this regard. And if the view doesn't re-centre then just map the re-centre to a HOTAS button and you're set but I've hardly ever had to do so with TIR5. hassata
I'd also suggest mapping Pause to a free HOTAS button. That way if you need to manipulate switches or otherwise keep your gaze steady, you just click then click again when done. I noticed a couple of Helios profiles that had some TIR controls on them. So I had already figured that I would have to have a couple of functions handy somewhere. Lacanian
I just bought the TrackIR5 with proclip last week. In summary. As the start it was to sensitive and I didn't have the time or patience to set it up correctly for A-10c. I have since downloaded a profile from the forums. WoW this piece of hardware is Awesome!
