infraslove
on page 46 of the manual it states "The stability augmentation system (SAS) channels provide pitch rate dampening for better tracking and dampening pitch when the speed brakes are deployed." To me this reads you should have better (read finer) control of pitch once speed brakes are deployed. But it does not state if just opening your speed break just a little will provide this or if it needs to be fully open. I'm asking this question to see if their is possibly an advantage when air-to-air refueling if you open your brakes slightly to help control your pitch while connecting to tanker. Hey every little bit helps as its already tough enough to top the tanks off. Cibit
The thing I found in air to air refueling is that the guy who used air brakes ran out of fuel quicker than those that didn't:megalol: I can see your reasoning and as I have never managed more than a couple of thousand pounds don't feel qualified to say. Try and see if it helps you;) i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB

Laud
I was thinking that the SAS only compensates aerodynamical effects caused by the deployed airbrakes. As far as I understood this whole system, it is not ment to provide different sensitive steering profiles, but to compensate and damp unwanted aircraft movements. BlueRidgeDx
The passage about pitch damping with the speedbrakes open should be taken to mean: Pitch SAS will automatically apply elevator input to compensate for the natural nose-up tendency that occurs when the speedbrakes are opened. BK553
I use a little speedbrake always during refueling to make deceleration a little quicker. I had a tendency to run up too fast on the tanker. I'd say my first 20 refueling attempts ended with a collision, or a blue-on-blue strafing run.
