MAKS 2011 Planning Thread

Recommended Posts

I missed the 2009 edition, but I'm not gonna miss this one(In fact, this will be the very first air show of my life).

In opposite to people living in other countries there are no packages available where I live ,so I will have to organize the whole trip on my own.

That's why I need your help guys, here is my plan, feel free to share your previous experiences and add any relevant comment:

- Arrival at Domodedovo on the 18th,planning to stay at the nearby Milan Hotel.

- MAKS all the day on the 19th (how to get there from my hotel?)

- I read that Saturday is the most crowded day,so Monino on the morning of the 20th,and Moscow sightseeing on the afternoon (how to get to Monino?)

- MAKS again on the 21st.

- 22nd flight back home (Qatar)

Regarding the tickets available for sale on the official website,I would like to get more info on this one:

- 9000 rub: Entrance ticket with possibility of a photo- and video shooting from a media platform (single ticket)

What is meant by possibility? Will this ticket allow me to be closer to the flight display?Any other privileges? Is this the VIP ticket? The Grandstand is located on the other side of the runway?

It's very expensive, but as this is my first airshow...

Also will I be able to seat inside the cockpit of,....let's say,a Su-27 :cheer3nc: ?

I saw some interesting offers on the net like this one:

Any idea?

Thanks for the help!

this means you get to shoot the planes with a video camera, and this cost ppl extra usually in russian museums. Although i ve never payed for it, and always had the camera hidden in my jacked (depends on the size of the camera). Just buy a normal ticket.. no one will see the camera in the crowd. I managed to take it in the Hermitage for free ffs...

Yes,but I understand that the platform means a special location that allows for better angle no?

Correct, you can take pictures or videos of whatever you wan't too...

The 9000RUB ticket is a special tribune on the opposite of the crowd

btw: It is impossible to smuggle anything to the airshow, I haven't seen such strict conrols at an entrance ever before. They wanted me to shoot a picture and show them and they checked if my watch is working...

I was very close to sit into the MiG-29M OVT :shocking:

but my russian wasn't good enough...

I asked him to take a pic but he dind't want me to take pictures of the cockpit, but I'm pretty sure that he would have let me sit in, if I put the camera away...

so I stayed on the ground but: still a nice feeling

Same here. I talked around 30 minutes with one of the mechanics of the Mig-29 OVT and kept asking, if i could take a picture from close up.

In the end, he told me "When someone is asking, you are a friend of mine." Since we are almost same age, it looked real. VIP's were already through to sit in the jet, so nobody was actually allowed to be there. I was happy, i have been never before.

I still remember the words of the mechanic, when i asked him, if i could sit in it:"Tomorrow, i can get you in there." But sadly, on that next day, i went to to fly Yak-52.

This year, i will sit in the beast!!

Well I gave you some tips at ARC already (aka Seb) but to answer you this one - if that is the grandstand on the crowd line, then you are some 100-125m away from the runway - assuming crowdline is 50m from the runway... it is also interesting to note that there are no fences at the crowdline - only loudspeaker towers and the wires connecting them, and between each tower an army guard or two...

trust me - those guards have a look that can kill - I saw a guy stepping over the wires and when he met the guards eyes he jumped back as he would just find out he stepped into a minefield :D

I am trying to get my friend on skype but I miss him all the time - he's Russian but lives in USA and he always visits MAKS with VIP tickets - when I finally catch him, I'll let you know.
