JTAC Lazer/IR designation?

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to get JTAC to mark a target with a Lazer or IR pointer? I am sure I have seen this somewhere, but have lost the thread?:(

I'm not really sure either, but ... I think they only use the laser to mark targets if they're telling you to engage with LGBs (you can specify the weapon type they should tell you to use). For the IR pointer, it obviously needs to be occurring at night.

In both cases the JTAC will need a clear Line of Sight to the target. There may also be some kind of check to determine if the JTAC unit actually has a laser designator or IR pointer. Normally the suggestion is to use an armed unit.

It might be helpful to set the JTAC unit as invisible and set its ROE to 'return fire' or 'hold fire' so it doesn't start shooting at nearby enemies.

I will try those, thanks. I think its in the logic of the unit if you specify LGB the JTAC should use Lazer? Or at night the IR and/or lazer. They should then use the "sparkle" instruction, if using IR? Up to now they just use WP.

Apparently our IR "pointer" on the A10 will show up at night!! I have yet to try that:thumbup:

You can see your own IR pointer from your TGP whit your night vision goggles.

Doesn't have to be night either, not that NVG's are of any use during the day but at least you can check the pointer out.

As for online if you can see the pointer of other AC or from JTAC i have no idea.
