TM Hotas Cougar

Recommended Posts

I need help. I replaced some parts in my cougar yesterday, and when I plugged it in today the PC says "Unknown Device". I tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers, but it hangs at "connect the cougar to a USB port, or if already connect, disconnect and reconnect the device". I can't get it to install the drivers. I've been trying everything. I can get into the cougar software by moving the DLL file into the right place in C:\Windows but the cougar software says no device connected. I also tried to flash it, but didn't see any notification of that being done...

I'm on Win7 64-bit. Can anyone help?

1. Download drivers:

http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=50&cid=1

Ensure that you download 64-bit as opposed to 32-bit. Drivers refer to Vista - does not matter. Confirm driver package named 2007_HCO_VISTA_64_RC1.exe

2. Unplug USB of Cougar of the Computer.

3. Deactive UAC in Windows.

4. Right Click on the Driver downloaded, and press Properties.

5. Go to Compatibility column, in Compatiblity Mode, mark this and select 'Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)'. In bottom mark 'Execute this program with Administrator permissions'. Click OK.

6. Execute installation of file drivers, following all the prompts.

7. Restart computer.

That should work. Just remember that it is a complete one-stop install: Contains Foxy as well as all the relevant TM software.

yep, I did all that, but it doesn't go past "connect Cougar to USB port". I can see it in the background in my device manager as "unknown device"...

I had the same thing happen with my last cougar. The guy I sold it to had to install it on Windows XP to install the new firmware. After that he was able to install it on W7.

I still don't get why during the install of the drivers, it hangs at "connect your device to the USB" when I did that...

It did the same thing to me, if you read that thread, that's what I went through. That's why I sold it, such a disappointment.

Well, the thing is though that it was working fine. All I did was replace the gimbals and center post. I left everything else alone, so it should work.

That's weird then, don't know what to say. E-mail TM support and see what they say.

Well, all is good. I got it installed. I figured out through the process that the system wasn't recognising the joystick, but knew something was there... so I re-opened it up, looked over the wires, and inside the center post, I found that the red wire was crimped a little. After splicing it, resetting it, putting the stick back together and replugging it in, the software recognised the joystick and installed everything.

What a pain! Now I just need to replace my pots and get the holders to hold them right, and I should be good to go.

Cali, if you're still having problems, take the stick off the base, and you'll see a little connector with 2 screws. Take off the screws, lift out the connector and check the wires. That might have been your issue.

Sold it over 6 months ago, that was the 3rd Cougar I tried and every one of them did the same thing. Plus the speedbrake switch was messed up on 2 of them. After that many years of building them they still can't get that right! And they still used cheap stuff and relied on the buyer to spend another few hundred bucks to make it what it should have been. I really like the Cougar and was upset that it didn't work out. Glad you got yours fixed though.

Ok... is anybody here REAL good with working with the TM Cougars CCP and Foxxy???

I think I screwed something up when install these programs... Now the CCP DOES see mt Stick and throttle... but unfortunately, I installed foxxy into the same directory as the CCP. I unistalled Foxxy and tried to reinstall it to it's own directory.... but unfortunately, it installed itself to the same directory it was in before....

Unfortunately, I haven't had tem on my system for 3 years, so I am VERY rusty on getting things setup correctly for the system... I miss frugal's site!!!

Sorry I took so long to respond Cali... went on a badly needed vacation!!!

Actually yes I did... Cubby from CubPilot's Hanger went through it with me and helped me get things in order.

Thanks for checking though!!

I guess I was part of that .01 percent. But the person I sold it to updated the firmware in XP and had no problems. I tried XP, Vista and took it to a friends house where we tried all those again and no dice. Guess it wasn't meant to be.
