Agg Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 It actually looks rather playable, never thought Id say that about an ARMA game :P
Pyroflash Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Hooray for Ragdolls and physics! If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
RSharpe Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 (edited) It doesn't really look like an all new engine. Are just adding features to this really old engine? I really hope this one is 64 bit and is optimized for multi-core CPUs. It's a shame that the interviewer failed to ask any useful questions at all. Edited June 10, 2011 by RSharpe
element1108 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 It's a little early to be commenting on specifics I think at this point. It's impossible to tell through that video if it's indeed a new engine or an updated version of the old. They're calling it arma 3 for a reason I would suspect. Perhaps the interviewer asked the questions but there was no comment at this point from BI so that part was cut out. Who knows, gameplay vids first to wet the pallette of the casual user. Specifics later for the rest.

It is indeed a re-iteration on the old engine that BIS has been using since OFP came out. And considering the state of computing, it will probably have both 64 bit support and be better optimized for multi-core CPUs. If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
Bucic Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I'm skeptic about the rag-doll physics implementation. It has been misused for over a decade. Animations done by animators that sucked were being replaced that animations that still sucked because animators think rag-doll will do everything for them. Personally I have very little respect to the animators 'achievements'. ArmA needs a guy that actually does the thinking (see the video). I don't what the rest of the bunch is being paid for. It's good that proper physics implementation will at least deal with tanks shamelessly humping each other. Grimes Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Can't operate the sub.... :( I suspect its for covert insertion/ex-filtration. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Bucic Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 If you feel like following the most recent news I'd suggest monitoring armaholic.com. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=14454 A lot of video coverage. Basically they'll get what should be done some time ago ;) Either way I nothing comes close to neither ArmA nor ArmA 2. Well, maybe Hidden and Dangerous 2 ;) F-5E simpit cockpit dimensions and flight controls Kill the Bloom - shader glow mod Poor audio Doppler effect in DCS [bug] Trees - huge performance hit especially up close
