shu77
A simple request, I was wondering about the possibility of getting the Air-brake in DCS: Warthog added as an axis option so that we can assign it directly to a slider on joysticks like the X-52 rather than needing to map keys. Runibl
Might be a bit difficult since the real A-10C doesn't use an axis for that, but a 2-way hat switch. You could possibly set it up on the slider using bands, in the saitek programming software. I believe that's what i did when i was using the X52. Can't remember exactly how, but split the slider up into 3 sections (bands), use the forward for retracting the speedbrake, backward to extend the speedbrake and middle section as a hold function. This should effectively emulate the real thing Runi. digitaljjd
Bands are the way to go, I used 5% or whatever the min. is. One note of importance, you have to always return the slider back to the center or you can't use any other keys, because it's an endless repeating key stroke in the forward or aft position. Heli Shed
I use Rotary 1 for air brakes. I have an X52pro. This is the only KB command i use the SST software for. The remainder is mapped in sim. PM me your email address. I'll send you my profile for the airbrakes. Regards 'T' Come pay us a visit on YouTube - search for HELI SHED
shu77
Yeah I use bands now, based on JFBrauers profile, the problem is when you forget to center them you get a whole bunch of keyboard input everywhere. I get that the real plane doesn't use an axis, but it would be a nice concession given that most of us have spare axis on our sticks rather than spare toggle buttons. Tyger thanks for the offer all the same. shu77
In the respect that the percentage open is relative to airspeed it wouldn't really matter for the purposes I'm describing. One end of the slide is going to be closed and the other is going to be full open relative to aircraft performance. Half-way is going to be half available brake, It just means you're using an axis channel of which there are several, rather than a momentary of which we are limited, or using the current workaround of applying Bands which result in nasty issues with keyboard buffer usage. Similarly speaking, you could do the same thing with Landing gear. Just because you slide it completely open it does not mean the gear will come down if the AC speed does not allow for it. I get used to it.
Alex_rcpilot
I never liked the so-called precision slider on X52, it's not even stable, not to mention precise. The linear potentiometer inside wears out pretty soon. I think putting the board on a hat switch would resemble a toggle better than a slider does. Heli Shed
yeah, the slider is lame, for sure. I used to use it for max zoom, but so jerky. Now i default to the mouse wheel on the throttle after LAlt & C. The speedbrakes on the Rotary 1 is via bands. This means that i can recenter the rotary at a position that i want the speedbrake at, eg, approx 40% on finals. It does have it's disadvantages as already mentioned in that yoiu will have to recenter in order to be able to toggle switches etc and essentially have control again, as the rotary will constantly be sending 'Lshift & B' (or whatever it is) to the system. It has caught me out a few times, but very concious now to recenter. Regards 'T' Come pay us a visit on YouTube - search for HELI SHED
