Excellent. An excellent guide for the over 60's into browsing. (hrm hmm.. with the FIREFOX browser :D)

PS: If you zoom even more the picture of the Hale Crater, you will find the whole surface is made of square like objects...

LOL, do these people ever tried to save photos with red color into JPEG with 50% quality?

In this case, such photo is also used as texture, on 3D heightmap model grabbed from an angle, and re-saved as screenshot in JPEG second time...

"...this conclusively demonstrates that there is intelligent life on Mars..."

I want to ad this:

"but there is not always a intelligent life-form in front of the computer...!!!"

:megalol:

@mig29 and all that post something similar:

Please post a big red notice "Time Vampire" !!!

But even if I lost 10min of my life (OK- it was while eating a sandwich - so it is not absolute lost time)

it was absolute hilarious to see how and why he made this conclusion.

So If you have nothing to do for the next 10min - go on and click the link...

Edit:

Browsed to his channel and found this commentary :D :

@bryanjohnbeard Hey man I thought the same thing...at first. Take a second look and you will see many of the "pixels" are literally rising up from the ground which would indicate to me that these things are not pixels but are some kind of geometric objects. Please understand that a pixel will not take on 3 dimensional qualities if it is enlarged. If they are pixels then they would still appear flat on the image. I have viewed the video many times and am quite impressed by it. Also, it is important to note that tens of thousands of still images and hundreds of thousands of hours of video exist now on these various space agency websites and it is logical to assume that if these agencies are airbrushing, fading, and scrubbing the images that they will eventually make mistakes and release something interesting and revealing as they may have done here...good shit !!! sean1david1ryan please make more videos, I have this one favorited on my channel.

Ok. Now I know, besides me, there are at least three people on this forum who are interested in extraterrestrial civilization :)

Being "interested" is not the same thing as thinking that there is one in this solar system. Don't let interest replace your faculties and ability to ctitique information.

Don't even need to used that zoomed version to notice what's going on there - you can see it in the unzoomed version as well - exactly all over it. Including sheer walls.

Seriously, this is about as crap as it comes. Be more skeptical about this kind of stuff, for your own sanity.

Ahahah, that's a funny quote you found there. Thanks. :D

For those that might wonder: a "pixel" will too take on 3-dimensional qualities if it is a pixel from a 2D photograph mapped onto a 3D-radar map of the photographed object, which is then viewed from the side.

I still don't believe this crap about intelligent live on mars...

My impression is that GOD was very tiered (or just lazy) after creating the BigBang and used very lousy compression methods for texturing the planets in the universe.

Another example to give you a image how tired/lazy he was while creating the world:

God took a rib bone from Adam and created Eve!

So there is no doubt that you see on rare occasions some failures in his creation! -I don't mind! It's still the coolest simulation I ever played. :)

I don't get it..

The color pixel and the geomtry are taken from different sources, thus what was originally a pixel gets smeared over a threedimensional surface: the pixel is no longer a 2-dimensional surface.

Trivial example:

quake1.gif

Note how the pixels on the texture, which are 2D entities that should be square, get warped in three dimensions due to being plastered onto a 3dimensional structure.

Now look at this picture:

137-021104-0533-6-3d2-01-HaleCrater_H.jpg

Easiest to see in this non-zoomed in picture if you, for example, take the cliffs at the left edge of the big crater, as well as the central features. You can see the compression artefacts of the image follow the terrain map. Similarly, in the middle features and the top centre cliffs of the crater edge, you can see how detail is lost - this is due to the picture, taken from above, having less detail per square meter on a sloping surface than on the flat surfaces.

The final clincher on JPEG compression lies in how these artefacts are more prominent on flat and relatively featureless areas - as soon as there's detail to be had, like the rocky patch at the top middle of the crater, the "geometric artefacts" disappear. This is because the compression will use a more aggressive algorithm on squares (JPEG and so on split the image into squares as far as compression goes, you might have seen this in MPEG videos as well) that have little variability in order to save space for less aggressive compression in squares with more detail that might want to be preserved.

Edit:

Thanks EtherealN for that good ilustrated explenation why we have this artifacts on mars - and this can't be the origin of so called "intelligent life".

Let's put everything together.

GOD used poor compression methods while creating Mars- It's so simple!

If someone finds more bugs like that...and you want to create a video like our fellow in post #1 - there is no need to do this e.g. setting up the Hi8 camera, search for a pointing device like a little antenna (because you know that nobody will be able to identify the mouse pointer on this video)-and than digitalizing this video, and so on...- there is a easier way:

God has a customer-support!

mail to bugs@vatican.va

P.S: Remember that there is a small restriction to get the full customer support.

You have to be a registered catholic

I apologize for wasting everybody's time. Before posting the video, I took some random images, darkened and contrasted them to see whether same patterns appear or not. Didn't see any "geometrical patterns" in those. Also the day before I watched Transformers: Dark of the moon, and was hell bent on finding some civilizations and I got carried away. :(

:) You should 've said "texturing", and I would understand from the beginning...That's what I currently try to learn in 3ds max.. PITA. Even ESA get's it wrong.

@ ESA: learn UVW unwrap right, noobs! :P

Here some artefacts from me:

Good Lord, i hope this guy is not allowed to operate heavy machinery... you know, like cars. If there is a God, he sure does love nutcases, no doubt about it.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

What I can’t understand is how the tea industry makes the decaffeinated tea, isn’t it a bit like decocaned cocaine?

So you’d soak the tea leaves in water and than extract the caffeine and put them into a teabag?

I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully.

I thought the same until monotwix last post...

:prop:

@ monotwix

I wish you luck with your tea-farm.

And don't forget to write a postcard from time to time.

Have a good journey, you little fellow !

But anyway...

how to make decaffeinated tea

http://recipes.howstuffworks.com/question480.htm

Caffeine occurs naturally in more than 60 plants, including:

  • the arabica plant, which produces coffee beans
  • the Theobroma cacao tree, which produces the beans that are the primary ingredient in chocolate
  • kola nuts, which many cola drink products are made with
  • the Thea sinensis plant, whose leaves are used for teas

When separated from its sources, caffeine is a white, bitter-tasting powder. See How Caffeine Works for more information about caffeine. Several methods are used to remove caffeine from its natural sources:

  • Methylene chloride processing
  • Ethyl acetate processing
  • Carbon dioxide processing
  • Water processing

no-caffeine-1.jpg

Photodisc/Getty Images

Most of the caffeine removed in processing is manufactured for use in other products, such as medicines and soft drinks.

Methylene chloride is a chemical used as a solvent to extract caffeine from many raw materials. Molecules of caffeine bond to molecules of methylene chloride. The materials are softened in a water bath or in steam. The next step is to process the materials with methylene chloride by either of two methods:

  • Using the "direct" method, caffeine is removed by directly soaking the materials in methylene chloride.
  • Using the "indirect" method, caffeine, which is water soluble, is extracted by soaking the materials in water. Many of the flavors and oils are also extracted during this process, so the solution is treated with methylene chloride and then returned to the material for reabsorption of the flavorings.

*Ethyl acetate processed products are referred to as "naturally decaffeinated" because ethyl acetate is a chemical found naturally in many fruits. Caffeine is extracted in the same way as with methylene chloride processing, but ethyl acetate is the solvent.

To decaffeinate using carbon dioxide (CO2), water-softened materials are "pressure cooked" with the gas. At high pressures and high temperatures, carbon dioxide is in a supercritical state, acting as both a gas and a liquid. It becomes a solvent with its small, nonpolar molecules attracting the small caffeine molecules. Since flavor molecules are larger, they remain intact, which is why this process retains the flavor of the material better.

Caffeine extraction with water is used primarily for coffee decaffeination. The process is similar to the "indirect" method used in methylene chloride processing, but no chemicals are used. After the caffeine is leached out of the material by soaking in hot water for a period of time, the solution is then passed through a carbon filter for caffeine removal. The water is then returned to the beans for reabsorption of flavors and oils. In the "Swiss Water Process," the same method is used, but instead of soaking in water, the beans are soaked in a coffee-flavored solution. This results in the caffeine being extracted without removing the coffee flavors.

Caffeine is not removed completely using any of these methods, but under federal regulations in the United States, caffeine levels must not be above 2.5 percent of the product in order for a product to be labeled "decaffeinated."

Most of the caffeine removed in processing is manufactured for use in other products, such as medicines and soft drinks. For example, less than 5 percent of the caffeine found in cola drinks is actually from the kola nut, and many of the popular "high caffeine" soft drinks do not contain kola nut extracts at all. The caffeine content of soft drinks is primarily, and sometimes completely, from the addition of caffeine extracted from decaffeination processes.

I’d like to keep a little mystery about the tea for my self, but most certainly many thanks for the link PeterP.

On another subject this happens to be my carbon footprint, my foot accidentally got stuck in the scanner.

Strangely enough when I scanned my nut’s and converted them into mp3, it didn’t sound too bad.

I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully.
