stretch911 Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Greetings! Just wanted to pop out a quick post to say hello. I've been flying sims since I was 18 (I'm 42). Over the years been a fond fan of Falcon 4, USAF, OF, LoMac, MSFS, and even participated briefly in online VFWs. I've been waiting for a less busy time of the year for me to take the plunge into DCS-A10 knowing that there is going to be a learning curve. I bought the game on Friday from Steam 33% off. I am catching on quick due to previous combat sim experience. I'm not quiet there on ramp start yet. Been through the in game tutorials up to Landing. I have made two out of three successful landings, one was an ILS landing in VFR conditions...so getting the basics down. I have a smoking computer, that I built just for this game. I have owned a cougar for years and am considering a TIR. One thing then I'll shut up. THIS GAME LOOKS AND FEELS AWESOME! I did some low level flying over tree lined farmland...oh what a rush. Ok...back to studying up on the warthog.:pilotfly: MB ASUS RAMPAGE III FORMULA R :: CPU i7 950 QUADCORE 3.06G :: CPU COOL CORSAIR| CWCH50-1 RT :: VGA XFX HD-587X-ZNFC HD5870 1GB :: PSU CORSAIR|850W CMPSU-850TXV2 R :: MEM 2Gx3|CORS TR3X6G1600C8D R :: HD 1T|WD 7K 64M SATAIII WD1002FAEX :: MNTR ASUS|LED 23" 2MS VH238H R :: TM Cougar HOTAS Uber I :: TrackIR5 :: CH Rudder Pedals :: SENNHEISER PC 350 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
PeterP Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 (edited) Welcome!:) Be sure to visit the user-files section for helpful utilities/missions/mode/ect. . And update your training missions before getting frustrated. Updated training missions for v.1.1.0.8 (Still Cant understand why these files are not uploaded as Hot-fix !!!) Conure Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Welcome - Make TrackIR your top priority, it's incredible. I would recommend you seek out a virtual flying squadron as soon as you have the basics down. I mean, once you're capable of basic nav, weapons deployment etc. you'll learn more from an experienced squadron in a few hours than days with the manual, once youve got the basics down. Enjoy the sim! stretch911 Posted July 10, 2011 Author Posted July 10, 2011 PeterP...thanks for the training link. Was about to get frustrated...with the ILS training. I'm approaching downwind leg and it says set your ILS....I set it to 110 and it doesn't recognize that I set it with my mousewheel. So I set the .30 with the other knob (read it in manual...very nice manuals btw) and it accepted the 110 setting. The trainer shuts up and I never hear from him again. When Airport is at 7Oclock I turn base and follow ILS on in from there... Conure...will be looking for a wing very soon...any suggestions? is there a list somewhere? I used to be on the freebirds wing...a brief stint at 148th bulldogs. Thanks! Conure Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Hi mate, there's a list of available squadons here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=34062 I would (of course) recommend 74th, however I see you're US based so that's not really practical given our server locations! I would say the best bet is to get into contact with a few VFS and hang out with them on their TS/Ventrilo to see how well you get on with them all. Many of the servers online are locked, however most have teamspeak details in their server info and when you connect to the teamspeak you can get the server password. The reason for this is simply that the game requires a lot of coordination and can be quickly ruined if people randomly join and aren't on voice comms! Jump on the 74th Flying Tigers some time - It is regularly open to the public and I'd be happy to help you out with some training. Quite often there are a number of US players on too so you might just find somebody that can get you involved with another squad :) Hope to see you online soon! Phuz Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 While daunting at first you do eventually get the hang of this beast, and it is bar none the most complete flight sim on the civilian market today. Welcome aboard!
