Using Second Copy(steam)

Recommended Posts

My question is can I use my other login details for multiplayer on the steam copy?

Yes.

IIRC, assuming that you did not delete the registry entry, the Steam install should not ask you to activate again on the PC. Linking through Multiplayer on the same PC as the two installs will therefore be OK as the login details are linked to your serial used to activate.

Edit: Norrised.......

Downloaded, just wondering now there is anyway to run the steam overlay in game. Ironically it doesn't work for me with the steam version, only when added as a non-steam game.

Can you change the shortcut steam actually runs in any way? I.e. DCS.exe instead of Launcher.exe for example?

This might not be in the right section but saves a new thread maybe. Thanks.

Unfortunately it's a negative on Steam overlay. Valve does not support 64-bit applications within the steamworks feature suite. The peculiarities of how it operates is out of the hands of ED, but if you have specific observations I could see if people can investigate it.

The shortcuts can be changed, yes. You do however need to be aware of what they do:

Launcher.exe: the GUI. All the settings you make happen in this executable.

DCS.exe: the actual simulation.

What happens when starting a mission from the GUI is that Launcher.exe prepares a couple of resource files and then calls DCS.exe with reference to those falce, which DCS.exe uses to load the appropriate resources (mission etcetera).

Thanks for the reply.

Regarding the 64bit, I am able to run the game with the overlay in 64bit using the non-steam game shortcut, so surely it's not a 64bit problem. Understand that a shortcut, and the way steam handles running may be different, but if it's possible using non-steam shortcut shouldnt it be possible using the steam version?

Just to note to get the non-steam shortcuts to run in steam i add the program and then alter the path to match the desktop shortcuts as it doesn't run otherwise.

Thanks for the different .exe files information.

I have a further observation and maybe help those with it on steam but want the overlay too.

If I add any none steam game to steam and then change the shortcut so that the target points to the Launcher.exe and the start in to the root warthog folder then you can play your steam game as a non-steam game and have the overlay, quite fun!! This may have been obvious but i'm rather slow.

Example shortcut properties:

Target: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dcs a-10c warthog\bin\Launcher.exe"

Start-In: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dcs a-10c warthog"
