Problems arming autopilot

Does anybody find it hard to arm autopilot sometimes? For some reason it doesn't arm occasionally but then sometimes it does despite there being no difference between the situations. What am I missing out on? The only thing that comes up on the panel is EAC so I have everything else ticked off on my checklist.

EAC has got to be armed for LAAP to work. If you've got EAC then it's a matter of pressing one of the LAAP buttons when within pitch/bank limits for the selected mode.

If EAC isn't on then we go back a step. EAC needs a few things to arm. EGI, a suitable alignment, CADC, IFFCC, all four SAS switches and the AAR refuel door is closed.

Could you explain that in an easy step by step way.

1) Ensure your alignment is finished, then enter nav mode through pressing the appropriate CDU button.

2) CADC, IFFCC, SAS on.

3) EGI on below the HSI (it's behind the stick)

4) Arm EAC.

5) You're set. :)

hmmm, still having problems getting the EAC switch to remain on. Basically, I have done everything as noted

1) alignment finished, set to NAV

2) CADC, IFFCC, SAS on

3) EGI button pushed (lit)

4) All other stuff complete (data card loaded, BIT test completed, all avionics powered, etc...)

Still, when I flip the EAC switch, it returns automatically to off.

I have run though the Ground Handling Training mission numerous times and have everything else passed, but this one item remains my failure. Note, I can "hold" the switch on and pass, but as soon as I release the switch, I fail. Not sure what else needs to be done??

your positive your alignment has actually finished (ie. 4.0.0.8) ?...

Wait till NAV ALIGNMENT is flashing in the CDU before changing to internal INS NAV mode, and then select EGI as the source

but yeah, a track is worth a thousand EAC posts as they say

I have the same trouble. I can't think of a single time I've ever gotten into the air and looked down to see the EAC switch actually on. I always have to turn it on after I get into the air and leveled out. Since you can't see the switch when parked, there should be a light or something to tell you whether or not it's on.

The problem I was having was I was getting through the start up procedure and getting airborne before ALIGN was complete. I was able to arm EAC ( the switch the left of the autopilot button) only after getting airborne and waiting for ALIGN to complete. IOW, not on the ground. I was too impatient - not following the rules.

Needless to say, the EAC switch must be up (armed) to engage autopilot in V 1.0.0.8. If it flicks back down when you push it, ALIGN is not complete. Or HARS is still selected in the front panel.

Otherwise, the problem may be that you are outside of the engage parameters when hitting the autopilot button.

And, as a suggestion: as waiting 4 miutes can be boring, you can take your time to go to the DSMS profile page and set it up as desired. Also, you can use the time to set up the CMS program. And when you see it, the 4 minutes have gone and you are ready to go.

This is an amazing sim! 'Nuff said!:pilotfly:
