pitbldr Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Hey all, Just posting a few pics of the "inards" of the caution panel I made for my pit. Only thing I would change is the length of the cables... but I really don't feel like resoldering all those LED's!!
shu77 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) You cant loop them into a single spool to try and get rid of some of the length? I always have the same problem working with Patch cabinets and CaT5 its always too short or too long. I was thinking about this based on your other post as its a far neater solution for $60 than having to run a second screen for the task and lose that output. The other thing I considered was that If I did one i would probably want to pull a couple of the spares off for Landing gear indicator Lights, gun and nws indictor, landing gear lever etc. Are you planning to go the same way? I need to find some code for these phidget boards that allows for radio output on the 7 segment LED's then I would be inclined to buy some of your panels and build a pit. hog_driver111th Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Pit, can't you undo the wires from the phidget board and cut them to a better length, or are they soldered in on both sides? Avilator Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Where did you source your LED's from, and how did you achieve the NVIS color? I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Honestly, I've not given it much thought. Having just finished it, I was less inclined to redo it all, but I may still redo it. The Phidgets board supports 64 LED's and so I still 18 I can use elsewhere. I will using them for the landing gear (3), the NMSP panel (9), the emergency flight control (4), any oxygen flow indicator (1), and the UFC master caution button. I think I'll be getting a second phidgets board to use for backlighting and for the other indicators I've not listed. Pit, can't you undo the wires from the phidget board and cut them to a better length, or are they soldered in on both sides? They're crimped on the other end so it's about the same amount of work to redo either end. I may just leave it alone. Sure it looks messy, but it's out of sight so does it really matter?? :D Where did you source your LED's from, and how did you achieve the NVIS color? I got white 3mm LED's from SuperBrightLEDs and the color I achieved by using green acrylic for the indicators.

Can I bother you once more to ask where you got your acrylic?:music_whistling: Thanks for the link, BTW. I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! pitbldr Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 Sure. I currently get it all from Delvies Plastics. I have been looking for a local source though as sometimes, shipping it pretty high when I place a large order. I try to get cast acrylic instead of extruded since I believe it cuts/drills better.

Im really considering getting one now as the output you achieved looks great and then a few of these http://www.desktopaviator.com/Products/Model_2120/index.htm to drive the switches. As I said in my other post the main thing I cant figure is how to do the radio frequencies, as this board seems to support a 7 segment LED but it doesnt really say how to use it to draw a number in the manual have you had any ideas on that? I'm afraid not. I've not yet played around with any 7 segment displays. For the time being, I'll just be exporting those frequencies to my second monitor and using HELIOS to control them. I believe that's Ice's EMC utility will pull all of that information and display it.
