Can´t taking out Abrams with one shot.

Recommended Posts

Also need to try to hit them from the top, so gain altitude, or from the rear. Front shots are akin to shooting arrows at a vault door.

With Vikhr some times i need four missiles, normally two and i wait the final explosion.

With ATAKA are normal needs more than one too ?

I play another tank killing game, tank to tank. In that game, it depends exactly where you hit them. WWII, German tanks are softer on top and in their butt and just above their tracks, under the mud flap, mid-section.

Don't know how the tanks are modeled in DCS.

Tank armor is modeled, though not in as high detail as you would see in a dedicated tank game, obviously.

Generally, try to attack from the rear of the tank. With an attack helicopter it might be hard to get the view from above to be able to strike the top armor, but if possible this is also very good.

All Abrams to be taked out were hit more than one time for Hinds ATM.

It´s normal ?

I'd say so.

Keep in mind that the Hind fires the AT-6 with a HEAT warhead against a MBT with Chobham armour. Now as EtherealN said, tank armour is modelled insofar as the degree of damage the MBT takes prior to cooking off......In this instance 2 AT-6's cooking a M1 might very well be too lenient as personally I am of the opinion that IRL two AT-6's will do little more than antagonise the inhabitants of said MBT.

In the absence of discrimination between a mobility kill/NMC status (yeah i know what the damage model can do right now, but still) and a hard kill it's better to bias towards earlier hard kill instead of having unstoppable tanks. :)

In any case, i think we can agree that 2 Vikhrs would more than decimate the tanks ability to perform to its full capabilities.

Agree 100% - as such it's accordingly understandable as to why 1 ATGM is currently insufficient for the hard-kill, thus answering the OP's question.

Personally, I find it hard to believe that two shots are required MINIMUM to make the tank an ineffective fighting machine. If it's two shots minimum, you're basically saying that the possibility of a single missile making the tank ineffective on the battlefield, is negligible. And as I said, I think the probability in real life, is likely much higher.

2 missiles minimum is what is required to cook the tank. Nobody said anything about '...the possibility of a single missile making the tank ineffective on the battlefield, is negligible....' As stated in numerous previous threads, tanks and other units have degrees of damage that adversely affect their ability to aim etc etc. As such, a single missile will adversely affect the MBT. Said damage, whilst not visually visible, is still present.

I also need two vikhrs for any modern NATO Tank in DCS since it came out.

Its normal. :noexpression:

@ErichVon : I also think its Steelbeasts PE

Obviously all good choices, but not the one I used to play. I hear there is a new tanking game that I believe may still be in beta that is supposed to be very good. Lost a few guys to the older game to this newbie. But I came here.

I am such a hermit and behind the times I did not know these other games existed except WWII Online, which I did like the infantry part of it. Flying it wasn't that great.

DCS: between the Warthog and the Black Shark, totally takes all my free gaming time.

It would be nice to be able to hop into the ground vehicles here to shoot back at the enemy incoming.

Since the guys in England recreate flyable museum pieces; there are guys on The Discovery Channel (cable TV) that rebuild old tanks---maybe hire them... :P

Cheers.
