DCS World 2.0 and New Maps Discussion Thread

I didn't doubt the existence of ongoing work on Nevada terrain, until now.

Quite correct - it's all a conspiracy  :megalol:

AFAIK that is still the plan.

Also, this has been explained before but might be lost in the hundred+ pages:

  • Nevada was, originally, a third party effort conducted by a group of people outside ED. This is what you saw in the A-10C pre-order betas.
  • This group was unable to see the project to completion, so Eagle Dynamics took it over.
  • Nevada was then started over using the in-development EDGE by the ED offices in Minsk.
  • With this last in mind, it is obviously necessary for EDGE to be ready for deployment before Nevada can be deployed. (Think of it like this: if you implement software using a specific DirectX version, you obviously cannot deploy it until said DirectX codepath is complete and distributed.)

No requirement for conspiracy theories here, people.

That sounds like as it still would take years until we can finally put a hand on it.

I know that you´re simply a Forums Moderator with no access to any further information, but if I remember right so we should have it actually installed already on our harddrives. So like Wags always says, everythings is subject to change, I do understand that the current releases and deployments may cause the delay. But wouldn´t it drop any "conspiracy´s" if we would get a simple proof of life? We already got some, month ago. So there´s no secret anymore (eccept the technical specifics behind EDGE and I totally understand this). So, is a simple proof of life really too much expected?

We know as much as you do and no, you do not remember right. You are forgetting the distinction between Nevada as a Map to the current engine and the new terrain engine with attendant Nevada map. BIG difference.

What, you think it died from when the last updates/screenshots were provided?

As already stated, the current short-term focus is on DCSW 1.2.2, FC3 and the final version of CA. I am sure that additional info on Nevada will be released when circumstances permit......there is after all no rush, is there?

Not really, I understand where you're coming from, but obviously ED probably wants you to focus your attentions on things that are closer in time, like FC3. (That's how things usually work with stuff like this - note how most game development studios will typically have a projects very existance be secret for years before they suddenly have playable beta code to show off at E3...)

No, I dont think this, and I haven´t said this (proof of life was ment more in a matter of a phrase rather than a thing taken to serious)

You might be right on this, and this somehow makes sense since ED can only focus on one specific item befor it can touch the next thing.

Nontheless, actually and officially I see this impatient behaviour of me and some others as a kind of a compliment to ED, dont you agree? I mean, rather a discussion of "when will we have it" than nothings like "I dont care"?

It really all depends. When high competition is in place, project secrecy is vital, especially in a business like video games, where certain gameplay solutions are not treated as intellectual property and are copied on a daily basis (noticed how every FPS game now has aiming down the sights and CoD mechanich?).

However, in a genre like flight simulation, where there is literally no competition (it's a niche genre with niches inside - DSC=jets, RoF=rag planes and Il-2=WWII), some showing off might be a good idea. The genre itself is not really popular, but some promotion and hype building would be highly desirable to get more attention/potential customers.

There was a vid called DCS Anthology (

)- it made some some noise on Polish gaming sites after release and while opinions about sims were varying, everyone was admitting one thing: "it's beautiful!".

Nothing draws attention and potential customers like some eye-candy.

Hell, I would have probably never gone DCS-study sim if it weren't for those lovely screenshots of the Ka-50 and A-10. :)

Also, giving proof of constant development and progress reassures the community, that the they are paying for a line of products with a bright future. Not to imply DCS is dying or anything, but PR was never a strong point of ED, and keeping the hype going always proves profitable.

Now, can we finally see some videos/screenies?! ;)

Will the folks who bought the A-10 beta still receive this as per agreement? Or was this subject to change in the fine print?

I'd like to know this, too.

Yeah, I'm not worried about it being dead, either - It's a big shift on top of a lot of other things, and considering the whole organization of DCS just changed to be closer to the modular system it was originally envisioned as, there's probably a lot going on under the hood with EDGE that they have to clear so that it can have the same kind of adaptability once it's made public.

Just put it down to yet another one of life's empty promises, " A-10 beta purchasers receive this as per agreement" an easier way to see it is imagine a politician told us they were taking Nevada away but it would soon return and would be bigger and better...

tumbleweed slowly moves across a silent desert scene and we all go back to flying about the black sea again and again and again and again .....

thanks ED with customer information of this quality you could be working in Scottish tourism!

You'll be glad to know that there is absolutely no problems at all

I cant wait for this new map.

It is not just a new map. It is a new terrain engine built from scratch, coupled with a new map based on the new terrain engine.

Does it include real core-based system? I mean to separate game for cores in real way, not like present where sound system only is on the second core - where sound takes low percentage of resources.

We have now 4x cores at standard sooner or later will be more.

ED adds many new features which now just slow down game, because all is being added on 1 core lol :)

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Living here in Nevada I can tell you a simulation/map of our terrain will be even more boring than living here LOL

I'd have to agree with you on that .

One has to ask what direction the board members responsible for "Nevada" were thinking at that time ?

Is how I feel and have lost interest along the way.

Better yet, why not give a press release of what you're working on but with the no promisses stamp. Make it a sticky. At least we'll know what we'll be missing.
