DCS World 2.0 and New Maps Discussion Thread

well i look at it differently. i look at the map as a canvas on which you can make your missions. in the case the more stuff it has the better. scenery is good looking and has a very good potential for mission making.

another good thing is that i can pronounce the names of the cities!

EDGE Update Clarification Request

After the latest update from Wags, I wondered if anyone could clarify the statements about ability to project the map on a globe. My particular question: will the coordinate "over-lapping" problem found in current map no longer be a problem with the introduction of EDGE? (not will it be fixed in the Caucasus map -- just will the problem still be there for future maps like Nevada).

This is a 300x300 km area that includes three functional airfields: Nellis AFB, Creech AFB, and Groom Lake (aka Area 51 / Dreamland)

Matt, any chance to see some other airfields more ? At least runways only (without taxiways, stuctures, beacons) those are much more easy to make

There are many in the vicinity/area such as:

North Las Vegas

McCarran International

Henderson Executive Airport

Laughlin / Bullhead City International

Boulder City Municipal Airport

Grand Canyon West Airport

Overton Municipal Airport / Perkins Field

St. George Municipal Airport (W-old and SE)

Mesquite Airport

Echo Bay Airport

Temple Bar Airport

Pearce Ferry Airport

Baker Airport

Kingman Airport

Jean Airport / Jean Sport Aviation Center

Kingston Ranch and Sky Ranch in Sandy Valley

Kidwell Airport in Cal-Nev-Ari

Desert Rock Army Airfield in Mercury

Searchlight Airport

Jackass Aeropark / Lathrop Wells Airport in Amargosa Valley

Pahute Mesa Airstrip

Yucca Airstrip

Mellan Airstrip

Tonopah Test Range Airport

Tonopah Army Air Field

Furnace Creek / Death Valley Airport

Trona Airport

Inyokern Airport

China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station

Shoshone Airport

Calvada Meadows Airport in Pahrump

Alamo Landing Field

Delamar Dry Lake

Lincoln County Airport

Bicycle Lake Army Airfield

Goldstone Runway / Miller Field

Atop the midnight tarmac,

a metal beast awaits.

To be flown below the radar,

to bring the enemy his fate.

What is EDGE exactly ?

A new engine for DCS ?

[EDIT]

Ok found it sorry for my newb question :<

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=80468

What is EDGE?

EDGE, dubbed internally, Eagle Dynamic Graphic Engine, is a new Image Generator (IG) built from the ground up that allowed for numerous benefits to the DCS environment.

Can't wait to see how it looks :)

The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

MGRS grids overlap in real life also so it's unlikely this "problem" gets "fixed". If you mean that in-game coordinates and bearings don't match with real world coordinates and bearings, then that should get fixed by using curved ground.

I can just imagine some people staring at the Nevada ME on their monitor going well, jeez, what now? :dunno: Me, I'm just going to do what I always love doing in ED sim. Fly low and buzz a manpads pride parade. And another thing. No more jagged edge mountains. :D

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Las Vegas shot from the International Space Station.

How many lightsources can be added to make it brilliant in the center ? :)

I haven't been there tough.

I was hinting to get a bit of that extra brilliance in the mapversion (center) in a smart way:music_whistling: without killing the fps.

Would love a vivid lighting there.

Even with edge I don't think we will get that sort of specular and I don't think its really possible yet to model the lighting of that sort of variation of colors. The specular is what what makes it fantastic. EDGE will get the job done though. There are literally a trillion light bulbs in Vegas. I am personally hoping to model the earth in DCS if it's possible might actually be a money making project?

Anyways I would also like to see Edwards AFB but I see Nevada as a demo for the edge engine and I can't wait.

... I think I need my eyes checked...

...After the map is released, it is quite possible that we will expand it, add additional detail, new airfields, etc. as we did for the Black Sea map...

The answer you sought was in the same post as the line you originally quoted.

:D Me too  I was just too excited to see with my eyes ^^
