Hello DCS-Community,

I have two questions regarding NDBs, ABRIS and the ADF.

1. The BS2 manual on page 146 says:

To select NDB data from ABRIS, you should do the following: on the MAP page, go to INFO and select the desired radio station and press INFO again. Radio station information will be displayed including type, name, frequency, callsign, Morse code coordinates and magnetic deviation.
Is there a radio station for each the inner and the outer beacon of an airport?

Also, I have problems finding them on the map. I cannot find the one for Mozdok for example.

2. The ADF comes with preset NDB channels for several airports. How can I tune in to a beacon that is not amongst those presets? If you get the beacon info out of the ABRIS, is that of some use to tune into them?

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

The ADF is tuned by the ground crew in real life and by a file called ADF.lua in the game. As the pilot, you use the small chart on the wall to your right to select the channel 1-8 depending on which NDB you want to tune to. You can't manually tune it from the cockpit.

You can either edit the ARK.lua file inside the Black Shark install directory structure or you can create them individually and insert them into the mission (.miz) files. The first method will affect all missions and the second will affect only the mission you inserted it into. The second method is better because really you want the airport you take off from on channel 1 and the one you land at on channel 2.

Not all airfields have an inner and outer beacon. You can see the beacons shown on the maps in BS.

This link takes you to an excel workbook that I use. It lets you select up to 8 airports and creates the ARK.lua file for you. Effectively, it emulates the ground crew!

Thank you very much so far.

When I start the Quick Mission "Cold Start in Mozdok" for example, the Airport has Inner and Outer Beacon (ADF Channel 5). But neither of them is visible on the map. Is that supposed to be that way?

And how does the "Search" in the "Nav" mode of the ABRIS work exactly? For example, try to find Mozdok...I cannot find it with the name search, neither under "airport", nor under "town" or "ndb".

I don't know why Mozdok NDBs aren't showing on the ABRIS. In the BS though, it's of little consequence as you can only tune the ADF to the NDB by selecting the channel from the chart on the side of the cockpit.

You can see them in the mission editor (see screenshot).

Sorry for stupid question, but where you got the BS2 manual? I can find only BS1.

It is in the "doc" directory in your install folder.

I think I found out why the NDBs are not visible on the map: The inner and outer beacons for a certain airport are never displayed. The ones displayed in the ABRIS are some separate NDBs that have nothing to do with inner/outer ones.

My only question remaining is, why cant I find all the cities/airports in the ARBIS search...

You're right -- Mozdok does not show up in the ABRIS town search. It is very easy to add, though. Edit /scripts/aircrafts/_common/cockpit/towns.lua by inserting a new line and typing in the correct information for Mozdok: name and coordinates. I do not know if it necessary, but I placed the new line where it should go alphabetically.

My untrained eye can't see the actual point in the picture but I trust you. ;)

Is this series getting too complex for ED? So many products that need to be patched everytime any updates are made, things getting outdated and one can only hope for fixes sometime in the future even after paying many times for the "same" product.

Sorry if I sound negative but news especially from the Warthog side are not the nicest after so many patches.

Yes Griffin, sorry .

I'm referring to the double Airport Symbol for Nalchik, but happen for all the "old" (from BS1) airports.

And the displacemen of the same amount of the 2 NDB (LOM LMM).

The symbol for the NDB (Green almond-shaped) is lost, so you can't see them but if I use the search I can find it close to the NARTAN written.

At this time I have already fixed the position just for Nalchik Airport and relative NDB's.

If ED can tell me where the ABRIS obtain the position of the right placed Airport Symbol are from, i can Fix the other Airports more quickly.

And share with the comunity.

That's good news. Please, keep up Your work and let us know about it. Hope ED helps You.
