P-51D PAINT SCHEMES!!!

Azazel

Recommended Posts

I just spent a few hours looking at P-51 paint schemes; I'm obviously way too excited for this bird to come out. Since we do not have the finished product yet, I thought it might be nice to post a few of my favorites and I hope everyone else will too. Also included is the cover I slapped together on PPT for the flight manual I just printed out. Anyone back me up on a sticky for this?

Nice! I haven't made skins for years but I always liked doing my own. I used to make them in Il-2 and I still have the generic metal template I made for that one (took forever to get it right). I'd like to get back into it.

Any way ED could implement this paint scheme for the P-51?

**runs away**

Edit: On a serious note, this talk of skins on WWII aircraft reminds me of Il-2. I really wish ED could look at eventually incorporating custom skins into multiplayer. It would be awesome if we could customize our skins and other folks in MP could see our customizations, like in Il-2. We could experiment around with different cammo schemes for FoF play, for example.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Moonbeam McSWINE

Moonbeam McSWINE From the European Theater, 352nd Fighter Group, 487th Fighter Squadron, flow by CPT William T Whisner.

"This aircraft was named after a character in Al Capp’s comic strip Little Abner. ‘Moonbeam’ was a sexy young lady who lived with her pigs in the mythical town of ‘Dogpatch’. This was Whisner’s favourite P-51, and between 2 November 1944 and 1 January 1945 he enjoyed great success with it, scoring 11.5 of his 15.5 aerial kills."

332nd FG (Tuskegee Airman)

The Tuskegee's made the P-51D Mustang quite famous...and yes a must have:thumbup:

A few 332nd Fighter Group (Tuskegee Airman) paint schemes.

additionally, this quote and aircraft schemes are also from Osprey Publishing...

"Archer used “INA THE MACON BELLE” to become the only officially-recognised black ace in US history, this honour only being bestowed on him in the early 1990s after an Air Force review of kill claims. In an effort to avoid the publicity associated with the first black ace, the USAAF had changed the classification of Archer’s first victim – a Bf 109, downed on 19 July 1944 – to a half-kill after it was discovered that his wingman, Freddie Hutchins, had also fired a burst at the Messerschmitt after the fighter’s left wing had disintegrated. The review five decades later restored the full kill, giving Archer five victories, and official ace status. Archer and wingman Wendell Pruitt proved to be the 332nd’s most lethal pair, with Pruitt knocking down three aircraft. The pair also indulged in post-mission victory rolls until they executed rolls in opposing directions after a mission in October 1944 which almost resulted in a mid-air collision! This would have proven an ironic twist on the team’s nickname of ‘the Gruesome Twosome’."

I'm actually a member(non-active now) of the Official Virtual 352nd Fighter Group, recognized for our online presence in Warbirds and Aces High. I've been to one of their reunions many years ago and have met many of the surviving pilots including Bob "Punchy" Powell.

Moonbeam was my ride of choice for squad missions. I've got a great print by Troy White called "New Year's Bash." Bought it from him personally at the reunion and had him sign it along with several of the 352nd pilots. It's one of my prized possessions.

So it goes without saying that I would love to see a skin made for Moonbeam.

Are paint schemes possible with BS2 and Warthog? I've never seen an option for it.

Yep. I'm working on personal schemes for some of the others almost daily.
