Somewhere in there, the EDM format was further optimized. Might be related.

 

i tried many versions of modelviewer - old and new too - but unfortunatly the converted edm model is always invisible in late version of modelviewer or in the sim

if i open the converted file with an editor i can see there are no material designation/definition for textures - as hungarojet mentioned

absolutely no materials in the file: no def_materials, no bano_materials, no color_materials, no glass_materials etc.

 

older well converted to edm models not visible in 1.2.6 game/modelviewer - or visible but got an error in dcs.log like this: 00031.609 WARNING NGMODEL: Model 'vfs:///models//xyz.edm' uses old format, convert please.

newer well converted to edm models - by ed in 1.2.6 - not visible in 1.2.1 and earlier game/modelviewer

 

maybe there are only one modelviewer version which is able to convert cmd/lom to edm for 1.2.6

or a trick ?

or ed uses another version for converting the models ?

Anyway Im trying to do work on the Ticonderoga Class Cruiser and the Frigate can someone help me possibly by converting them to a 3D model file that is openable?

 

Are you referring importing a .edm into max to do work on it? If so, that is not possible.

 

For now, EDM exporter only work on 3Ds Max 2010/11/12, expected future 2013 compatibility soon.

Zach, so is there no way to convert old cmd and lom models to edm format by modelviewer since 1.2.4 ? :cry:

 

If the older versions no longer work to do this, then my guess is no. ED might have converted all they wanted and optimized the viewer. I am not certain on this though.

actually i was wrong: earlier converted model was good up to 1.2.0

1.2.1+ use new edm files :(

 

and yes, we can use older modelviewers like 60076 - i used 60446 - but not perfect in 1.2.6 (1.2.1 and above) got an error in dcs.log like this: 00031.609 WARNING NGMODEL: Model 'vfs:///models//xyz.edm' uses old format, convert please

I put SOON, bi no put a definite date, but surely in some point of 2014 we can be see that update.

Luckybob, do you think ED plans to incorporate the shaders so that objects looks exactly as they do in the sim? I'm mostly referring to specular materials.

 

It really slows down the work flow. :(

Not sure offhand. Can you post a screenshot showing the two identical objects and how they look different.

You need to set up all unused material slot value to 0 at 3DSMax side before export. So only diffuse (or Specular/Normal if you use it) need to be set 100...

Yep, set reflection map slot to 0% for that material.

Is there any update on the 3ds Max 2013 compatibility?

 

Does 2013 have the Ability to save as a ".max (2011 or 2012) file"

It should. I believe they only go three versions back though. So earliest Max 2013 can do is 2010, earliest Max 2014 can do is 2011, etc

I'm trying to add spot lights to my ships (and FARP) and all I'm getting is either a long pointy light sabre thingy or a little glowing orb...

 

And yes I will release them when they are finished and properly textured.

as i see ED always convert old cmd/lom models to next version of edm when they come up with a new patch, so im sure they have a working converter but i can't get why it's not public - why no longer supported :cry:

i understand edm extension is the future but i think it very far in the future to got new models for all objects instead to use old "converted from cmd to edm" models

an i hope edge will able to visualize edm and the "converted from cmd/lom to edm" objects as well
