How to: Polished surfaces?

Is there any possibility to get polished surfaces on other planes than the P-51, F-86 and Mig-15? In my excample, the L-39.

I am new to skinning and I work with my good old Photoshop CS3.

Greetings...

Kelevra

Hey speck

Go here

The textures with _SPC at the end are the specular ones you can edit those.

Up this thread for 1.5 features

So .... has someone anderstood, the new "foggy" shame on old 1.2. textures when used in 1.5 ?

What about the 3 colousr channels in first posts ? what sort of effect in 1.5 ?

I've made some little experiment but have not the clue so far

Can't wait to read yours skinners

time to update this thread to update all of our skins, and work for the best metallic reflectiv texture in 1.5 ;-)

OK I've got it. but still need some tweaks and neet adjustement to be more realistic and less "plastic"

This is still true :

R- the intensity of the flare (the dark - no glare, bright - bright glare)

G- width of the specular spot

B-degree of reflection (dark - the surface does not reflect-mat, light - the maximum reflection - a mirror).

but for simplicity, the channel G is inverted R

but in 1.5 :

B the more blue the more reflection you'll have, but it will mask all the DIF texture and "greyish it". Look a bit too much plastic in maximum blue. So you will need to take care to all insigne and text and mark to have its own layer in pure green (mat )

for lines and dust : Use a light bluish green a bit less reflective but without any red.

True, test on L39 with max blue parameters in spec files only give a highly brillant paint aspect, nothing like the P51/F86 metalic effect.

maybe must have an other parameter to activate it, in a lua file maybe ?

can't wait to read the clue about that;-)

P-51 and F-86 use "Chrome" Material in 3DS Max when materials are applied to 3D Model.

Other aircraft dont afaik, and should have some effect on surface.

Been reading about Physical based rendering.

Could it be that in DCS 2.0 that the G channel will ACTUALLY be working as a "proper" roughness channel. Black is perfectly smooth - Full Green is maximum rough micro-surface. This would make the G channel the most important channel for affecting the way a surface reacts to light and making it an inverse of R would NOT be the right approach.

If ED were to use PBR in an industry standard way .. the B channel would actually be a channel for defining metallic surfaces. Black is non-metal and White is surface behaving like a metal.

Non-metal areas would only have fresnel reflection, and specular highlights would match the color of the light source; the intensity and diffusion of spec and reflection would depend on the roughness (G channel) of the surface.

Metal areas would have actual reflections and the color of specular highlights could also be affected by the diffuse color of the metal as well as the light source color and again the intensity and diffusion of spec and reflection would be based on the roughness of the surface.

the R

G inverse of R

and B

those were for the 1.2.x Shader. Prolly not 100% correct for the New 1.5 Chrome Shader.

likely the same but some differences for the chrome shader.

as stated the shader isnstill WIP and theres already a bug report regarding getting it back to the way it was for the F86 Trailers.

Hi guys, Im trying to make su27 more REFLECTIVE (not increasing specular) but Im having some problems as Im not very good with PS CS6...Im trying to increase the blue channel in the SPC files but I just cant see a real difference or its very minimal...

what I do, after installing the nvidia dds soft (and Im on 1.5.2 thats the reason Im not sure what to do) is to open the Su27_tex01_SPC.dds, Su27_tex02_SPC.dds, etc...with PS, click on channel mixer option in the right of the screen and then play with the colors to get it bluish...after I save as dds in PS and when the nvidia dds menu appears I select DXT5...just that...I guess Im missing something here but dont know what...

I want to make the su27 to look quite reflective when looking surfaces at wide angles. Right now, reflections are very subtle...

Hi again...I wonder if its possible to add specular effects to the cockpit interiors????...I have take a look to the cockpit textures of some aircrafts and channels seem to be only a mis for each color (RGB) but not for "effects" as specular...it would be great to add some kind of "life" to the cockpit with this...

Take a look at my MODS here
