Do you guys know when I can get into some full real battles? Yesturday I clicked join battle and set to full real and gave up after waiting for 15 minutes...

I've had the same luck, though your best bet would be to ask over in their forums about it, might get a quicker answer.

In this regard I see no advantage in playing War Thunder over IL-2 1946 modded on a popular server. You never need to matchmake in IL-2 if you play at the right hour, you have persistent servers rather than one off matched ones and you have a variety of full real to slightly less real servers but certainly more opportunity to get into a legit dogfight but know that your opponent is locked into his cockpit. And even then external IL-2 is nowhere near as gamey as external War Thunder.

Naw, I see War Thunder as a fancy pretend simulator. Even if the full real stuff is decent the population just doesn't seem to be there. I haven't succeeded once in actually entering a full real match. I suspect strongly that you need to hook up with a cadre of friends just to "seed" the matchmaking.

Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.

That wouldn't be so bad if "full real" would anywhere near Il-2 realism level (which obviously wasn't exactly sky-high). Truth is, this game was from the get-go geared towards casual arcade players and while some of us give a go they didn't show any intentions of doing anything singnificant for the simmers.

Obviously greed got the better of them.

It's a game, a fun game, the types of game that you enter, play and satisfy you. It should be calling simulation game, that is different from a simulator.

Nevertheless I have plenty of fun with it.

I was almost tempted to give it ago today but after reading this thread just gonna give it a miss as have spent a lot of money in world of tanks don't want to start another game like that even if it can be played for free.

I was over on there forums and they do seem to have knowledgeable members posting and comparing ingame stats to real world stats to try to get the devs to make the ingame planes more like the real thing so maybe there might be progress at some point.

I just really liked the idea of being able to use TrackIR in it to give me the edge. lol

Well what is nice about it is its easy to jump into and dogfight, and like playing BF3 or other games sometimes it just nice to jump in and shoot stuff...

War thunder is fun, especially the lower tiers. The upper tiers tend to be not much more challenging, except that you tend to die faster from all of the cannons flying around. You'll go crazy if you stare at the xp bar past level 8 though.

If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.

Good things abour war thunder:

-The terrain, clouds, sky look realy good.

-The plexiglass on the canopy and the reflexions on it look awesome. And so does the volumetric light or what it's caled(rays of dinamic light in the cockpit in morning or late afternoon).

-multiplayer stability, number of online players, netcode, fps.

-Number of planes.

Bad things.

-Planes look like crap.Well compared to DCS P-51

-Cockpit(gages and stuf) looks like crap.Flat and ugly.

-Fm is more or less crap.

-I want to fly jets without paying money.

I got to level 6 without money and i intend to play it further but only for free.

Hm, there's been a large update "recently" (about a month ago):

YouTube tag still does not work correctly, thus the link.

Now DM is updated in a way where wings break off very close to the munitions impact point, not just "3 default positions". It is tuned so you can fly the airplane with wingtip blown off, but if you've lost close to 1/3 of the console, you won't be able to fly straight and level.
