Sony OC BIOS

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone knows where to find a hacked BIOS for a Sony Vaio PCV-PX550 computer. I just wanna see if i can improve my in game FPS with a slight OC but i cant do it on the SONY BIOS.This computer is a 1.49GHz so do you guys have any suggestions at how high i should OC it? I havent done any overclocking before so i have no reference to go off of. I was thinking i would stop at 1.75GHz but any suggestions are welcome.

You need to find out the make of your mother board, start at your pc manufacture's site which I guess would be um 'SONY', also hit the pause button as your sysytem is booting, there should be a screen with you bios information on it version/date/vendor ie awards/via etc...I assume you don't even know what processor you even have, I suggest you do some research before you even attempt ocing your pc...it is not something you just do off the top of your head if you know what I mean?!

I know that my MoBo is a SON 176149412 but all the info i could find about my BIOS is that it is version 1003. there was nothing about awards, dealers, or anthing, just the version. Oh and i have an Intel Pentium 4 1.49GHz btw.

Since no one answered that i'll just put the results that i think you'll need. Also i'll show my GFX card results which is OCed 10% (as you can see) and its working well, but im wondering if i can make that number any higher without risk. Sorry that the report is really hard to read (all smushed together) but i just copy/pasted it here and this is what happened.

alright, so i go to the ASUS site and dl the newest driver for my mobo and i get the newest BIOS. the mobo driver goes well and then i start on the BIOS update, i do everything im suposed to (back-up old BIOS, make boot disk , ect...) then i install the new one and sure enough it works too. Now the problems start. I am going into windows to make sure everything works well before i start to play around with the BIOS settings and i get to the login screen. so i click on my username but i get an error. it says "Windows is not activated, please click 'ok' to activate it now", so i click "ok" and it brings me to another screen which says "Windows has already been activated, click 'ok' to continue". again i click "ok" and now im back at the login screen, so i click to log in and i get the error again! (this cycle continues for ever...trust me:p) So now i go back to my BIOS and look around but everything looks normal. I start up the comp in safe mode and cant find any probs. so i call Sony for some help. The first guy i talked to helped me with what he could but it wasnt enough to fix the prob. The second guy (who was an a$$) pretty much interrupted me everytime i tried to talk and just told me to reformat my computer and basically accused me of trying to use a pirated version on Windows XP (which im not). so now im back with my old BIOS and everythign is working the same but i still cannot OC my CPU so im back where i started (but with an updated mobo now). if anyone else has had this prob please tell me the solution or if there is another way to get a BIOS that will OC my cpu please tell me how to do that. Thanks in advance.

since you updated your bios, with an asus version instead of an sony one, you MAY have fuked up a few of your programs that came with your pc and also maybe even your windows version if it was a OEM windows xp cd.

You probably have to format to sort this out, and if the bios has changed any DMI info then chances are, any programs that came with your pc when you bought it, might not work without the proper DMI info, even the windows disc you have may not work properly, It may look as tho it works ok, but it will only be after a period of time of using it that will tell if its ok or not.

If there isnt any options in your bios to change FSB, CPU multiplyer, Ram timings etc, then you are stuck and wont be able to overclock your cpu, unless you hardware mod your CPU, depending on the actual cpu type that is. Also hardware modding a cpu = bad idea unless you know your shit.

Older motherboards and brand name pc's invariably wont have any OC options, if your board did have OC options then sony would of surely wiped them and inserted there own bios, so that users cant mess with things and kill there pc = saves sony money from fixing a pc that was damaged by a user messing with advanced settings.

Also since you updated your bios with a Asus bios, since that never had any OC options, then you will never get a bios with options unless its a homemade bios from someone.

alright well thanks for your help but i guess, like you said, im just stuck with what i have now. i mean i will be getting a new comp within a year for university but i just wanted to see if i could get a couple more fps out of what i have. one thing i dont understand is why everyone is so against me OCing my comp, i mean i know that i havent done it before but everyone has to start somewhere. I have already managed to OC my gfx card fine and its not like i have a really good computer that im worried about wreckign anyways. oh well, just though id get that our of my system cause its kind of a downer when you wanna do something and everyone is telling you how bad of an idea it is even though they probably do it themselves (Like a smoker telling you not to smoke). anyways thanks again to everyone for their help.

dude i r not against u OCin your pc, I think its your pc telling you not to OC it :) thats why you dont have any options.

but yeah, if you dont care if you destroy it, then somebody somewhere will have hacked a bios, its just you have to find it. Also overclocking videocards is a cinch compared to overclocking a pc. all you do is move a slider to the right for your card. its not like that with cpu etc. you probably already knew that.

But if you are determined, keep hunting for a bios, or even google the type of pc you have, but put overclocking infront of the actual name of your pc, and see what hits you get, you maybe surprised.

GL in finding a bios.

EDIT:

this dont look good for you, i been reading, and it says to unlock/overclock a sony vaio pc, first you have to find the specific jumper on the mobo, take it off, then solder a 2.2k resistor in its place, now this may not be how its done in your pc, but if this is an indication then I seriously dont think you will find anything, but then on the other hand you never know.

lol, if i'm supposed to solder anything to my comp then i should prolly just give up. I fully agree with you there. oh and thank for looking into this evil_scotsman. my last option, which is am trying tonight, is calling a person from esupport.com. they sent me an e-mail to call them regarding OCing with my BIOS. (everest gave me the link to esupport btw). So i'll keep you posted on if this works or not.

Pyro,

Calm down. If you have not overclocked before and would like to get your feet wet. Look here:

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=28&threadid=1497607&enterthread=y

I tried my first overclock recently after doing weeks of research. I managed to OC my A64 3500+ Venice to 2.55 GHz. It is not ground breaking, but it is fun and is free. Overclocking do require patience.
