CCIP mode for rockets, is possible?

Stratos

Recommended Posts

I can't understand that section of the manual, so I will ask here, hope someone can help. My question is:

- Is possible to launch rockets without using range finder, as in CCIP mode?

Maybe is not possible, but for example in the Mig29/Su27, when you select the rockets, the aiming reticle appears as in CCIP mode and If you shoot the rockets will hit the target, you don't need to calculate the range or anything like that. So my question is if is possible something similar in the Ka-50.

Thanks.

You will need to use the range finder AFAIK for range calculations, but if you do not want to "prepare" the target for an immediate response attack, then you should look at the gunsight mode in the manual :).

hope it helps :)

The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

just reset your weapon systems and without turning on your shkval, select rockets. You can do the same with cannon.

That is not a continously computed impact point, because as described in the manual (if I'm not wrong, I don't remember exactly) this way the weapon system will assume a fixed distance of 1,1 km... but maybe I will need to check this later :smilewink:

Ah Yea sorry

I got confused with aiming pipper ( that what it called ? ) and CCIP

I think chromium is right, 1,1km. So I need to "lock" the target in order to find the range? What about rocket strafing then?

Have a look at the gunsight mode in the manual and, better, try it for some test-targets: this way it will automatically turn on shkval aiming at the release pipper point and countinously lasing for some seconds any time you press "lock", even if there is nothing to lock in the pipper.

Can't understand that, can you please elaborate?

I'm in office, if you can wait till 20.00 Italian Time (4.45 hour) I will explain that better: I need to check on the manual, to be sure that I'm not going to tell you something wrong :). I didn't deal that much with GS mode since now.

To explain as simple as possible let's say that when you are in GS mode, your shkval point exactly where is pointing the pipper in the hud, tracking the pipper movement: if I remember right you will not have any authority on the skhval cursor movement. When you press the "lock" button, the laser start lasing and the pipper correct the impact point accordingly to the distance. So, when your pipper will aim at a particoular point/target, you are pretty sure that your rockets will hit that point (within release parameters).

It's effective in pop-up or dive attacks, and also for hasty attacks or targets of opportunity: less accurate than pre-targeting, but faster to set up as it won't require any shkval input.

I remember being in that mode once. No idea how I did it, but its awesome, I will take a look at your elaboration when Im coming back for sure, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

“АС – ПМ” (Automatic tracking – gun sight) switch, to the left of laser standby switch. In gun sight mode, without laser ranging it is fixed to a range of 1,100 meters. With the laser in standby, point the Shkval (by flying the helicopter) on or near the target and tap the lock button. The laser will flash and get range information, the Shkval will update and move to the newly calibrated position, then you aim at the target once more, and fire.

That works pretty well, maybe is the same method used by Chromium?? Wondering what reange should I use while attacking truck sized vehicles.

depends on your own accuracy and the launch method you use. Using the "medium" burst setting (5 rockets from each pod) i have been able to kill soft targets as far as 3km with a carefully planned approach.

Can someone clear up the benefit of this over hms-ing to a target? I always thought of this mode as a "shkval failure can't rtb" mode?

It's all about preferences. It's nice to have range indication, but you can do a rocket run without it.

If you prefer slewing to shkval with the HMS, or boresight the shkval and fly the target into the shkval is just a matter of preference.

Personally, i rarely HMS a target of opportunity if i'm closer then 4km. I just reset the shkval, select rockets and fire when im 2-3km. I've fired filthy amounts of rockets so i know somewhat how far i should lead the targets.
