Thats right peeps, the new nvidia 7800gtx with 512mb a 550core clock speed and 1700+ for the memory, is nvidias new card that is already claimed to kill ati's latest and greatest card, whether it will remains to be seen but here is a link for you to check it out, no pics.

With that cooler it looks like monstrous frankenstein to me.

Look at the price, and say WoO-HoO! I guess another +1 average FPS in LockOn :) for just a little cost ;)

I guess its the card for those who's hobby is testing and benchmarking these cards, and constant watch on FPS meters.

EDIT:

BTW, Scot, I got my 6600GT now, and it works on my shitty power supply. Thanks for all the help on DV chat back that time!

Ordered mine for more than just lock-on.

One reason is I can help one of my friend's with my current cards at a great price. That is what friends are for.

Increased clocks and memory bandwidth migth not give you more frames on performance settings but, it will give you the same performance with increased levels of AA and AF.

To be honest I only see more fps in overclocking my cpu. Lock-on wants more cpu, and it will be a slow road until they can either "tune up" the cpu usage or enable dual core support. CPU speeds are not moving up that fast per year.

Example

2048 x 1536 x 32

No AA

No AF

Default "High" setting in graphics options

stock cpu 2.4ghz

2005-11-16 17:00:03 - LOCKON Su-27 Super Default High AFR SLI

Frames: 10697 - Time: 180785ms - Avg: 59.170 - Min: 21 - Max: 143

Overclock cpu 2.75ghz

2005-11-18 23:55:18 - LOCKON Su-27 Super Default High AFR SLI

Frames: 12146 - Time: 180657ms - Avg: 69.232 - Min: 21 - Max: 164

Strange how the min stays the same

And how missed frames are better

Frames: 10697 vs Frames: 12146 with only a difference of 128ms between runs ha .128sec. My tests were close partner

Rack Rig: Rosewill RSV-L4000 | Koolance ERM-3K3UC | Xeon E5-1680 v2 @ 4.9ghz w/EK Monoblock | Asus Rampage IV Black Edition | 64GB 2133mhz | SLI TitanXP w/ EK Waterblocks | 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB | Seasonic 1000w Titanium | Windows 10 Pro 64bit | TM Warthog HOTAS w/40cm Extension | MFG Crosswind Rudders | Obutto R3volution | HP Reverb

you got huge ass monitor, i run mine max 1600x1200, i be the jealous one :(

Lockon NEEEEEEEEEDS Dualcore support, which aint gonna happen until they make a totally new engine :(

Monnie, you should have your aa and af @ max, I got mine at aa8s af16, and when running with the sli gpu load program at the same time, the cards are under utilized with even that, so you can easily run lockon with max aa/af. I do and I run max game settings apart from water which i have at high and also mirrors are off, if the view is locked to cockpit, I turn off heat blur, apart from that, everything else in game and the nvidia control panel is maxed. But you have the higher resolution monitor, so I dunno what would be the case there, but by going from what I have seen, the vid cards are really under utilized in Lockon and aa/af isnt a problem for this game, as aa and af are rendered by the video cards and not the cpu, so there should be no slow down.

Do a quick test, with aa/af turned off, and get your fps, then do same test with max aa/af and see what your fps is.

I discovered also that CPU OC (200Mhz) gives better benefit the higher you go.

With alt @100 close over cities benefit for me is from 17-20 to 23-25 FPS

With alt @2000 I already got benefit from 40 to 50 FPS.

Of course my older Ultra can’t take more than 2xAA, 4xAF without serious FPS loss in 16x12.

Anyway these 7800GTX’s rock especially with higher AA/AF settings!

Evil Scotsman,

I ran this test to show CPU benefits with different clock speeds. Using a Default setting to have a baseline

Normally I use 2 x AA and 16 x AF when playing.

Things I toggle depending on the mission are:

Vis Distance High or Med (High has a huge impact)

Water High or Very High

I do not use Mirrors at all expect for the keyboard commands which I have mapped to my HOTAS.

I usually have shadows on All Planar ( All shadows does not look that good to me)

As far as running the GPU Load Meter you see that lock-on is not using both GPU's all the time as well as it could. Is it NV or Lock-on application? I do not know. Seems to use it a lot in extrenal views and when a lot of shaders are present( the water)

You said you are using 8x AA. Is that SLI AA?

I am on my laptop with mobile internet while working. When I get back home I will run some more tests for you if you like.

1) No AA No AF

2) 2AA

3) 4AA

4) 8sAA

5) 0 AA 16AF

6) 2AA

7) 4AA

8) 8sAA

I got your PM partner but, my work schedule does not allow this for a couple of weeks before we can hook up. Sounds great though, I am looking forward to it. We will have a lot of fun and even more laughs :icon_jook

Dayglow,

Very astute of you. I read that post on the ubi forums as well and noticed a couple of things were said that did not match things on my end.

The lastest drivers from Nividia I believe 81.94 ( I am not at home to check) defaulted to AFR in the Lockon.exe profile. So I did my own testing and at least on my system, AFR works much better. I did not get the so called 25% increase using SFR, actually I got less performace with SFR.

Onething that I have not been able to resource yet on the nvnews forum but, when I use SLI Anti Aliasing, my profile reverts back to SFR. Not sure if this is a limitation of the hardware/software for my cards.

In a nutshell, I am happy with the performance. AMD needs to hurry up and put out about a 3.5 ghz processor and all will be good. Lock-on then would really test my video cards.

I am anxiously awaiting to see how things work out once the 512's are delivered. I will run the exact test to compare if you are interested.

I expect the min fps will stay the same, my average up a little as well as the max or the same results with increased AA. Can not go up on the AF anymore. I remember the days when AF really had a performance hit but, seems like that is not a problem anymore.

I know one thing, all the flares and smoke rendered during the Super Su-27 track still gives a hit on my system. You are a sharp guy Dayglow, what is rendering those or why is it so difficult to process?

well, I have no inside knowladge of the LOMAC system, but as each flare is added to the scene you are adding a light source. Probably it's overloading the rendering pipeline with the lighting calculations would be my guess.

Myself I've just added a second 6800GT to my system, but so far LOMAC doesn't seem to take advantage of the sli setup. Turning on the onscreen rendering option shows no movement in the scale with either AFR or SFR. Further experimenting is needed to see if it's a beta driver thing (running with 82.04's as they improve performance in COD2)

If I can help in anyway, feel free to ask. If you would like to use a certain track as a guideline, I can enable the load meter and shoot a screen shot.

Same here, i tried using sfr and there was no difference whatsoever that i could see. I will admit that the new drivers did give me a magic boost in 3d mark 05 scores, i now hit 12000, whereas before with the release 75 drives, i was lucky to break the 10k mark.

and yes monnie, i think you HAK, my reason for this is, you will get your 512mb cards before i do, thus you = hax :( ;)

AS I SAID BEFORE, you h4k :) :) :) :) REAL NICE SCORES ;)

I think ive got a buyer for both my 78s :) he says he will take em for £700 as they have lifetime warranty. so heres hopeing he comes threw so i can get the new ones :D

btw monnie, you do know that you have succesfully beaten many many fx57s with 7800gtx's in sli. as other forums i visit, there is a good few people with fx57 sli 78s and they get 12500/13000 MAX although thats at stock. So your score has PWND teh shit out of em. My stock isnt that far from them either, about 500-1000 short in most cases, in 1 case it beat a fx57 sli 78s when the fx had 11500 as a 3d score. Obviously something was setup wrong or he was running lots of programs while benching. I normally beat fx55's with sli 78s in 3d mark if both pc's are at stock. But beating them in 3d 05 doesnt translate into real world terms, as a fx55 and fx57 will pwn our pc's for straight out gaming. :(

Not for long tho :D

So, good luck to everybody who wants these babies.

I tried to get one in Germany. Some dealers announced that they would get it today - but no go. They all changed delivery date to "unknown". Not one single dealer in the whole damn country has this card in stock.:icon_evil

Somehow this reminds me of ATI: The cards are officially announced, but you can't get them anywhere. If I didn't know, that some guys have really already purchased the card, I would think they are kidding on us.

if you seriously want em quick, phone alienware uk, as they are the company that deals with europe and they have them in stock, £960 for 2, as thats where am gettin mine from. they got 2 on hold til i get this 700 from the dude, if he ever comes threw that is.

If you cant get the 512, i will sell you both my 256mb 78s for £700, transferable lifetime warranty from xfx.

if you are interested that is.

Evil-Scotsman,

thanks for your offer, but I don't want the 256, I want the BEAST;)

I tried everywhere in Germany the whole day long, but no chance over here. Nobody has the 512 and nobody can even tell me when they might be available again.

Alienware uk might be a solution. Just looked at their german webpage, and same problem there: if you want the 512, the production of your PC might be "delayed". Furthermore it seems they've got the "normal" one, but I want the OC one from XFX. Oh man, and I do really want it urgently. Yesterday I ordered my new PC from my dealer; they will start building it next Wednesday and the only thing missing then will be the graphics card:(

no, phone them, dont buy a pc. the german website for alienware is just the english one translated into german, if you do business with the german site, it actually comes from ireland, as ireland supports the whole of europe and parts of africa and mideast.

get there number and phone them, and you will be able to buy one today if you have a credit card.

I even give you the number that only pc buyers have, that will take you threw to sales and you will skip all the formal crap.

As i say, they have them, and have plenty of them, as I was talking to one of the boss's 2 weeks ago, and they said there would be no problem with stocks, thats why they can guarantee my 2 whenever i get cash from the dude who buying mine from me.

xfx is what my 78s are, and AW love to do business with xfx and the 512 cards from AW are infact xfx.

phone this number between 9 am and 3 pm or 10am - 4pm tomorrow... this number is for germany 0800 100 5079 and its option 1 for sales and option 2 for customer support.

and its a free number to call, so you dont even get charged for it.

by the way, my 2 still pwn 1 7800 512mb. TBH they are tooo powerful for my pc as it is. so 2 512s would be overkill times 2 :)

Thanks for that info, Evil-Scotsman. One of my dealers just claimed that he awaits the cards on Monday - well, wait and see. If I can't get one 'til mid of next week I'll give AW a try. But I'm still afraid, that they don't have the OC Extreme Edition but only the ones with "normal" clock settings.

Are you kidding or do you really think your two 256 will outdo the 512? So maybe I should think of raiding the grandma next door and getting me two 512 in SLI ;)

Just curious what my new rig will bring with the AMD 4000+, one XFX 512 and 2Gigs OCZ, I guess the CPU will still be the bottleneck and the second 512 wouldn't bring so much more - for LockOn at least.

2 normal 78s do infact beat 1 78 512mb, it has been proven in bench marks. and beat it by a significant margin.

If you are getting the 512mb version of the card, then amd 4000 aint enough, amd 4000 aint enough for the 256mb version, I seriously wish i went with fx57, but at the time i got mine fx 57 wasnt out.

As for lockon, 78s do jack for it, as me and a few people have already tested.

Yeah, I would have liked the FX-57, too. But it's about 700,- EUR more than the 4000+, and that's absolutely crazy. Everybody told me it really wasn't worth that much more money. Maybe in future we will be able to update with the FX-57 for a reasonable price. Until then I guess the 4000+ and the XFX 512 will bring a nice performance (of course not everything maxed out). However, I hope it will bring a much better performance than my "Aldi" discounter PC with Intel 3.4 (Socket 478) and Geforce 6610XL (whatever that my really be).

true, it isnt really worth it when you compare it to the fx55, as with the 55, all you do is bump up the unlocked multiplyer by 1 and you have a fx57.
