Realistically what sort of difference will I see in World?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm on the verge of upgrading this system...

Core i5 760 @ 3.4ghz

8gb DDR3 Ram

GTX 660ti 2gb

128 OCZ SSD

to having a core i5 2500k and OCing it to 4ghz. This is quite an expensive upgrade so I'd really want to see big returns...Is this worth it?

Cheers

Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.

I cant give you a concrete answer or throw numbers your way that would say your going to X improvement. I can tell you that you will see some improvement upgrading to a system like that, how much depends on what system you are upgrading from and a whole laundry list of other variables. My suggestion would be to search through the forums for FPS issues. A lot of folks post their system specs and average frame-rates. It might give you a clue.

IMHO from what I have seen of several threads regarding this issue. 30-40fps is about average.

No way... i5 3.4 to 4ghz is a total waste of money... You'll get little gains.

Disagree. OCíng is still the way to get your FPS in ED´s products up, however it will pour with posts afterwards telling you that graphics has gain weight in the equation. Went from 3.6 to 4.4 Ghz, believe me: fps boost you can count on.

The question is what`s next for DCS World: OC to 5 Ghz? Will the next version of DCS require you to oc your CPU?

Yeah I agree his fps will go up, but enough to justify the cost? I wouldn't bother personally.

That's the key. What is it worth to the OP? I also would not bother with an upgrade like that right now. Wait six months and see what DCS is like.

In six months I expect to have a better feel for how/if DCS is progressing and what kind of hardware changes makes sense.

I don't think that upgrade will bring you amazing improvements. I get a noticeable, but not huge framerate increase (sorry, I'm too lazy to go about testing it to give you numbers) by OC'ing my i7 950 from 3.06 to 4.0 GHz. It's an increase worth doing the OCing for, but not worth spending money on IMO.
