Reworked Cockpit Views with proper Neck

Recommended Posts

If you would like to change the default head position in the cockpit (not the FOV), there are two ways how it can be done:

1. Use the user snap views by chaning the head position in cokpit, as described here: http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Snap_views

2. Edit the SnapViews manually, change the default setting (index 13):

   [13] = {--default view
       viewAngle = 107.000000,--FOV
       hAngle     = 0.000000,
       vAngle     = 0.000000,
       x_trans     = 0.000000,
       y_trans     = 0.000000,
       z_trans     = 0.000000,
       rollAngle = 0.000000,
   },

I think it's one of the x_trans or y_trans - would have to do a small triall and error to see which one exactly and how much to change it.

The other point are the cockpit head movement limits which are controled by 6 DOF setting in the server.lua. Correct me if I'm wrong as I don't have a VR but as far as I understood from the forum those are not applicable for VR.

Thank you, I will have to try to mess with the x and y values when I have some free time to test it out.

SnapViews.lua - obviously optional. Version with all views configured as default in DCS but with modified, same FOV = 107 set for all views, including default as also quick views (107 works nice for wide-screen monitors). Easy to change the FOV - just run replace "viewAngle = 107.000000," selecting your own value.

The head is centered but in Bf-109 the sight is offset to the right. You need to move your head to the right while aiming.

Thanks for Attention and Answer! But this is inconvenient, especially in battles on bends.

Well, maybe you should go back in time and tell the people who designed the plane since they designed it that way?

Just set up a Snap View with your sight reticle centered. Works fine for me in Huey and Mi8.

Go into the options menu and go to the Special tab. The 109 has a Cockpit Camera Origin option to set to auto, cruise or gunsight. Set it to gunsight. You will now sit offset in the cockpit, with the sight centered.

Best DCS mod I have seen so far! By far! Thanks Peter! :thumbup:

Hard to believe DCS does not hard code it, should not have had to have been a mod!

Lol, I always think that too...pretty incredible they haven't ever just built this, or similar values, in to the base code.

In the begining of this thread there is mentioned

C:\Users\>YOUR USERNAME<\Saved Games\DCS\Config\View\...

but in that folder i doont have view folder?

Create it then.

He probably didn't know to do that,,, I ran into this myself many years ago when I had to create my own autoexec file when I was toying with a MOD. I was looking for a folder that did not exist by default.

For sure, a lot of the folders don't get created until you start saving settings inside the game. I believe the same goes for the View folder...if it isn't there, just create it and drop the .lua's in :thumbup:

Does this new file apply to all aircraft including the A-10C?

The modules for which view settings are handled by the last atached server.lua file are:

A-10A

A-10C

F-15C

Hawk

Ka-50

MiG-29A

MiG-29G

MiG-29S

P-51D

TF-51D

Su-25

Su-25T

Su-27

Su-33

Mi-8MT

UH-1H

C-101EB

M-2000C

MiG-21Bis

MiG-15bis

F-86F Sabre

SpitfireLFMkIX

Bf-109K-4

FW-190D9

AJS37

L-39C

L-39ZA

F-5E

AV-8B

Regarding the view folder and viewsettings.lua, the easiest way to get them is to save a custom view. It has to be done only once, just for any of view and in result DCS will create this file for all owned modules.

F/A-18, F-16, F-14, M-2000C, A-10C, AV-8B, AJS-37 Viggen, F-5E-3, F-86F, MiG-21bis, MiG-15bis, L-39 Albatros, C-101 Aviojet, P-51D, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, Bf 109 4-K, UH-1H, Mi-8, Ka-50, NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf... and not enough time to fully enjoy it all

I cant believe I never tried this mod before. Its great!

Just two question:

1.Should I use TRUEVIEW in TIR profile settings?. Its not really clear on the whole thread. I assume the answer is YES, but I´m not really sure.

2.Some people recommended, some time ago, to change TrackIR Saturation YAW /ROLL and PITCH values inside DCS axis settings. Is this valid or recommended yet? Maybe this was corrected by ED. I changed those values on some aircraft and I cant see the difference.

Thanks!!

LOL, for about 2 years I have been meaning to dabble into this. After a few days of reading through all these postings in this thread and trying to pick out a valid summary of what todays current procedure should be, I got a bit confused, and after a couple more hours last night of reading again, I dove in the pool,,, right after I did a DCS prompted update. My TrackIR will now NOT swing more than 90° in either direction. This was an issue in the past, and at that time, there was a MOD out called 'Restore 1.5.3 TrackIR settings'. I have not had to use that as of late, but I enabled this mod last night but there was no resolve. I assume the issue is either with the update or a conflict regarding the files I installed to get this working? I will find out later. But getting to the chase, I will be following the responses to you question myself as I dabble into this. I am also looking for a TrackIR profile that someone is very happy with, to see if works much better then the one I am using. If someone would be so kind as to upload and share, that would be most appreciative. Good luck 3ra_Luke!

UPDATE: So I just restored my PC back to version 1.5.7, TrackIR was fine, I then Updated to version 1.5.8, TrackIR was still fine. At this time, I did not install these proper neck files, what I did do howerever was follow the instructions in post 619, and adjusted ONLY the following:

'It is important in DCS World Options : Axis Tune Panel, to adjust Saturation Y for these axes:

TRACKIR_YAW: 44

TRACKIR_PITCH: 64 <- 44 seems true 100% 1:1 range with my TIR head debug screen but I increase it for PITCH in sim.

TRACKIR_ROLL: 44 '

THAT! is what limited my side to side movement to 90°. Unfortunatly, people like me dont really know what those settings do, but we follow the recomendations and get caught up in the unknown. Its not like I dont bother reading anything LOL,, I spend 90% of my time reading up on stuff than actually flying. so I do put in an effort, I just dont know it all.

I will be following this thread for further feedback, but for one, i have no idea what I should be doing to try and correct my view restriction if these are the settings that should be altered? I dont know if its a simple matter of resetting snap views or what? as I requested above, maybe someone can post their TrackIR profile for me to experiment with? Maybe mine is not compatible? Or its now a matter of Snapview settings?

Is this mod working with 2.5?

Yes, it still Works fine :)

... actually, I'm not using it as a Mod at all, the Mod consist of two files that go on the Config/View folder ... if you put it on the same path but on your Saved Games/DCS folder it will be enabled as default and you will be able to customize it further, for example the Snapviews.

Best regards

Haven't tried it in 1.5.8, but all I can say is that this part of Server.lua definately does not work:

local gCameraViewAngleLimits = {20.000000, 107.000000}

Or, in my case:

local gCameraViewAngleLimits = {30.000000, 90.000000}

Since the Views.lua files don't pass the IC* and since version 2.5.0.15085.337 the modules except for the Harrier will be completely disabled, I'm looking for a viable alternative to restict the zoom angles to 30° - 90°.

For modules which do not have that file in their file structure, the values are applied and always have been.

What do you mean? That since the latest version the view config stored in user folder works only with Harrier?
