Nefron Posted October 29, 2012 Share Posted October 29, 2012 Hi guys, Is it possible to use a button on the joystick to emulate the left mouse click in cockpit? I want to use my hat switch to look around the cockpit, and a joystick button with a modifier to click virtual cockpit buttons. I don't like letting go of my throttle and stick to use the mouse. doveman Posted November 2, 2012 Share Posted November 2, 2012 I don't currently have a headtracking system or touchscreen and there's a bug which is causing my mouse pointer not to appear unless I wiggle the mouse around for ages, so I'm thinking of programming VAC so that I can switch everything with voice commands instead. doveman Posted November 10, 2012 Share Posted November 10, 2012 Is there not a "toggle-whilst-held" feature, so that the mouse controls the cursor but whilst x is held, the mouse controls the view instead? This would be a lot easier to use than having to toggle between view/cursor with Alt+C (even if that's mapped to a joystick button it's still slow and fiddly toggling between the two states). Also, you could probably arrange that it would require a modifier to do so. The world is going mad. Me? doveman Posted November 10, 2012 Share Posted November 10, 2012 I can map stuff to my joystick with Xpadder but I'd still have to toggle between the mouse cursor and mouse view mode, when what I want is something like mouse view mode unless holding MMB (or e.g. ALT), when it switches to cursor mode. Then I could map my hat to mouse and MMB or ALT to a button on the stick, which would let me use the hat to move the cursor when held. It's just a pain having to toggle between the two modes, as I only generally need to be in cursor mode briefly to click something before moving the view to look elsewhere, which would be a lot quicker if it was a momentary/whilst held toggle. I leave my mouse in the middle so I always let go of the throttle. Most clickables are done before any encounters anyway! doveman Posted November 25, 2012 Share Posted November 25, 2012 Yeah but I'm right handed so have to let go of the stick to use my mouse ;) Ideally I'd have Freetrack controlling the view with my head, then when I hold a button on my HOTAS my head would move the mouse cursor instead and I'd use two buttons on my Hotas for LMB/RMB. I'm not sure if Freetrack will be precise enough for controlling the cursor though. So second best would be to have Freetrack controlling the view, then when I hold a button on my HOTAS, the mouse cursor appears which I can control with my hat. Until I get Freetrack working though, the best option would seem to be have the hat control both the view and the mouse cursor, depending on whether I'm holding a button or not. Anyway, it could be a while (or never) before ED accommodate my needs, so I'll work on using VAC to control as many switches as possible for now. I use my middle finger to click the left button and pointer on the right - radical I know, but you could try practicing that. Then you don't have to let go of the stick. :) Cheers.
