FC3 Bug thread

After trying deleting all the Input files and allowing a rebuild I got some unexpected view results not sure why. I suspect how I had assigned the View keys via my HOTAS. Anyway, I restored the previous settings and only deleted the keyboard.lua in:

Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\Aircraft type\keyboard

Then allowed DCS to rebuild only the Keyboard.lua file. This worked and now Vert Acq requires manual lock

Broken Russian radar and other stuff

!!!!

Hi guys, I hope you are all having a great hunt because I'm not (I'm not having it since FC3 was released.)

I've been shutting my mouth about FC3 bugs for months, but yesterday I experienced the ultimate bug: 1.2.6. has rendered all the Russian planes blind (radar not working) during Russian campaigns.

To be honest, I'm sick and tired of FC3 being an eternal beta, I paid nearly 40 euros for it when it was released and today it still has fundamental bugs that won't allow me to use the freakin' radar or to fly the A10 properly... I'm back in WWII! I mean, the new graphics engine is cool, the new payload menu is also great and all but IF I DON'T HAVE RADAR, WHAT'S THE POINT?

I'm pretty unable to detect bandits when flying Su27/MiG29s/Su33, no matter how much I tune it. I've tried using every mode in all kinds of frequencies, with and without ECM, with all kinds of range/altitude/inclination values and I'm still unable to properly detect the bandits that are right in front of me. Sometimes I'm lucky and manage to detect some of them but most of the time I'm blind, yet my wingman never fails to detect them (almost immediately). This only happens during campaign missions, instant action radar seems to work fine.

Another bug from version 1.2.6.: Have you ever tried to shut down your engines right before takeoff when flying the A-10? I always do because I like to have 4 mavericks instead of 2, the thing is that when you try to start the engines after rearming, ONLY THE LEFT ONE STARTS. When you compensate this bug by starting the right engine separately (all kinds of weird things happen in the process), the fire alarm for the mentioned engine activates even though there's no fire...

Another persistent bug that ED seems to obviate in every patch release is that the IRST for Russian planes still doesn't work. The IRST vertical axis is stuck since FC3 was released and nothing has been done about it.

On the other hand, patch 1.2.6. has (so far) managed to fix the broken missions in the MiG-29s campaign, which I appreciate very much, but not at the cost of broken radar!

Anyway ED should have never released broken campaigns in the first place, not if they planned to charge 40 euros for the game.

Now ED has this 60% off Autumn sale and I would like to purchase Black Shark 2 and maybe another module, but I'm not in the mood of buying another broken module, so I won't buy any other DCSWorld module until ED decides to be serious about them.

Rant over , please ED fix FC3 already, I hope you read this and do something about it.

Best wishes.

I hope they clean up the house after F-15/Su-27 module release. It needs this BADLY. Please ED :)

Hardcard, the radar is Russian aircraft is not broken... because of the way radar scan cone works the closer you are to the bandit and the more altitude difference there is between the two of you, the harder it is to pick him up on radar while still in BVR mode... you need to switch to CAC modes but for this you need to have tally on him first (so you know where he is at and you can point your sensors towards him).

The EOS is still not functioning as it should but ED are already working towards separating code for radar and EOS so they can fix their working properly (as they do not work the same)... and this takes time so be patient.

No longer active in DCS...

Hi Kuky, thanks for your reply.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I have tested Su27/Su33/MiG29s during campaign missions IN MANY DIFFERENT SCENARIOS and BVR mode doesn't work. I always need to get really close, switch to CAC and use manual lock in order to use missiles, BVR mode is dead in Russian campaigns.

I don't like posting stuff that I'm not sure of (a lot of people do that and I hate it.), as I said, BVR mode works fine in instant action but stops working in Russian campaigns. I know what the limitations of radar cones are, that's why I use BVR mode without problems during instant action flights.

I can tell a working radar from a broken one when I see it and I'm telling you it's broken.

I follow this procedure during instant action and works just fine:

1-I ask AWACS for a picture, then he provides the bandit's bearing/altitude/aspect.

2-I literally put the bandit in front of my nose cone (I have object labels activated, so I actually see the bandit from afar) and place my bird at a suitable altitude for optimal detection and missile range.

3-I activate BVR in CKAN mode and select either R-77's or R-27's, I switch the radar to the proper frequency mode for the given target aspect (I prefer the Russian HUD so I usually switch it to ABT -interleaved- when I'm unsure of the target's aspect, but, anyway, I cycle through modes if nothing is detected, even after proper altitude and distance tunning)

4-I detect the bandit, I lock on it and fire when at a suitable range.

This procedure works during instant action flights but not in Russian campaigns. Can you tell me why is that? Are you going to mention the cone again? The detection cone is ALWAYS there, either in instant action or in campaign, but it works in one and not the other, therefore BVR mode in Russian campaigns is broken (I'm making a few leaps in my logic, but I think it's basically sound, isn't it?)

Thanks for your time.

PD: You didn't say anything about the A-10 engine bug. Am I the only one experiencing these problems?

Anyway, I have another even more annoying problem: Now the game decides to CTD when I'm in the middle of a mission, I think a clean installation is in order... If I have to remap all the keys again I will kill

myself

Post a track here.

THe radar is working fine. The 'procedure' is working fine during instant action for example the Su-27 Intercept mission because the targets are nearly co altitude (B-52+F-5). I suspect you're not working the elevation and/or not recognising ECM targets?

Got BVR back at the cost of CTD's....

Hi RIPTIDE, thanks for answering.

Just to be clear, I know how the radar works in FC3, ok? I can detect almost anything at ANY altitude IF the radar works properly, ECM or not, from the first bandit group until the last one, that was never the problem. I watched and took notes of the FC2 training videos a thousand times book.gif, I know how to operate the radar thumbup.gif. The problem was that BVR mode stopped working during Russian campaign missions (I'm guessing it was the update from 1.2.5 to 1.2.6, but don't take my word for it). I said "was" because after completely reinstalling everything (I decided to remap all the controls, just in case) the problem seems to have disappeared, BVR mode seems to work again while in campaign...BUT now the game tends to CTD. Just 10 minutes ago I was flying the second mission from "Over the hump", the radar was working fine, fps were increased, I was starting to enjoy the whole thing and then the game suddenly crashed. I got the following error: "Loadin debriefing/Can not open file debrifing" (nevermind the programmer's misspelling)

I'm guessing the game is trying to open a debriefing I didn't ask it to open and never finds it... Who knows?

For everything you gain you lose something else...doh.gif

I'll look around and learn how to post a track, until then, thanks for your answers.

Ah ok. Maybe there was a key binding knocked out for Mode 2/BVR. Glad you got that sorted.

Yeah that sounds like one of them C++ crashed. I get the odd one aswell.

Hi again.

I will try, for the last time, to clarify the problem.

It wasn't a key binding failure, BVR mode went blind in campaign mode when flying Russian fighters, that was it.

Imagine there's a bandit at 30/40km, he's coming at you flying at 5000m, you are at 6000/7000. You switch to ППС because he's coming at you, then you introduce the estimated range (you guess it by looking at the datalink) and correct the cone elevation (-1 or -2). You wait 10 seconds and nothing is detected, you wait 5 seconds more and still nothing, you slightly modify range/inclination parameters and still nothing, you change to ABT (it shouldn't work better than ППС, but you give it a try anyway), nothing yet... you know the bandit is there but the radar doesn't want to detect him, no target lines, not one, not even ECM interference, NOTHING.

Eventually, you get to CAC distance and the radar has absolutely failed to detect the bandit that WAS there... That was the problem, and a clean installation solved it.

Now I'm trying to sort out why the game crashes, I've read someone solved this error by replacing the headtracker.dll and duplicating it, but this hasn't worked for me. I'll keep looking.

Good hunting and thanks.

UPTADE

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did some more testing. The A-10A right engine failure persists, the fire alarm doesn't trigger anymore but the engine still doesn't activate when ordering BOTH engines to start.

Also, my wingman doesn't engage the mission ground targets when I tell him to, he just flies to another place and gets killed by SAM.

MiG29S campaign "Over the Hump" still crashes during the second mission with or without headtracker.dll, so I don't think it's the cause of the problem.

As LUSO said, the fuel gauge for the MiG29 is broken since FC2...and yes, I know you can still use all that fuel and when the "П" lights up it's time to jettison the external fuel tank, but this is still another persistent bug.

I do not know if this has already been said.

But apparently, the Mig-29 additional tanks are taken into account for their weight, but not fuel.

Already it is not a great range, there is not cool at all.

Fuel is there but its not shown on the fuel gauge

This is a long standing bug. It was actually working correctly in FC1 the bug crept in around FC2. External fuel should be shown on the Mig29 Fuel tape.

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=53797&highlight=Mig29+Fuel+bug

I believe you, otherwise why would they have fuel gauge marked for way more fuel than what MiG-29 can carry internally?

My guess is that we'll be getting new MiG-29 also so might be they will fix this when it comes out...

Before the fuel gauge did show correct fuel with and without fuel tanks, then sometimes along the line it showed fuel in tanks also until you rearm/refuel, after which it didn't show it any more... and now even if you load with tanks straight away it still doesn't show it... but definitely fuel in tanks is there, just doesn't show it on fuel gauge.

Which model

A

G

C

?

Internal fuel is 3.6tone on the C model.

Fuel consumption depends on altitude and rpm.

I can asure all of you who think that the mig has no range that you are... wrong. It takes some time getting used to this aicraft.

I fly the A and C models. On takeoff 90-95% throtle is used full flaps. Lift off at 320km/h at 7 degrees.

Gain speed to 750km/h and start a 15degrees climb to 9000m

You can fly like this for over 1.5h with a full air combat load.

Doing air combat is a whole diffrent ballgame....but keep in mind that this is a FRONT LINE INTERCEPTOR. Based 50-100km from the shit hitting the fan..

This is shown by a smal cross section VERY powerull engines and small armament. A QUICK in and out...

Unlike the flanker that is desinged to escort long range bombers have a massive amount of weapons and fuell to do the job. Thefore its bigger and somewhat slower then the mig

The fuel tape works with the A model showing the external voulume.

Mig-29S three planes.

I just saw the debriefing, 3 crashed, because, I guess short of fuel.

The last I saw him he was in the final.

Thank you for this information SFAL.

My intention was only to see if at least the amount of fuel makes a difference. Not to establish a range, so this is just an indication.

But now I want to go further, to learn more about its autonomy.

My flights start in rampstart, 2000 feet, speed 400.

At the back IA are mounted 15000, speed 440

I don't know if this has been reported before, but I found a bug in the MIG-29A flaps, the right wing flap is asymmetrical and doesn't lower as much as the left wing one.

Another thing but I'm not sure if it's a bug, the Mig-29S flaps appear to not lower as much as the flaps on the Mig-29G and the left wing flap on the Mig-29A.
