Yes, please remove it, please please please !!!:helpsmilie:

For the life of me, I cannot see any purpose for that, other than giving this "wow, didn't know I had that much alcohol past night, how the heck did I get in here"- effect.

At least make it optional so those who don't like it can switch it off in the options or by editing an .lua entry.

This is not a gizmo, there's a technical reason that the devs implemented it, though i don't remember the specifics. Also, there are already numerous threads about this topic so please make better use of the search function.

I would also be interested on the reasoning behind this annoing feature.

The zoom buttons can stop it but not the axis... head tracking doesn't work while this is on, clicking buttons in cockpit is imposible cause they run away beneath your fingers...

...what can I say, it feels like an out of body experience might feel.

And then you go: "frack this, let me go god dammit" and you press numpad* while shaking diperately your head and rocking the zoom axis back and forth like a drunk monkey.

This has to go somehow.

It had something to do with setting the correct fov regardless of aspect ratio and resolution.

Ironically, i can't find the thread where the devs explained the feature myself currently. Duh. :)

Normally I hate it, but with AAR, this is a must! I normally zoom out clean from num 5 to the yellow / black top edge of downlock override panel touching my monitors lower rim.

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

Whatever the reason, I agree, please remove the zoom out. As a graphics programmer myself I cannot think of a single thing this would achieve beyond that Hollywood experience for new players. Perhaps the technical reason was a marketing person making a technical spec :P

Don't get we wrong, I think this team are second to none! Lots of love from me for the most amazing sim-flight experience. I have and will continue to buy everything they release. I just don't like the zoom. It makes me wait... (hmm, could that be the technical reason?)

I cant believe this is such a big problem. Its there for like 3 seconds, and its gone? Wouldnt you rather let them work on fixing the CBU's from killing your FPS or some other major bug?

Nooo... they should stop ASAP and fix this! Hammers and blow torches should not stop a second until it is done!

I want them to remove this zoom-out thing too.

But if ED would ask us, "Choose one; 'Tree collision' or 'zoom-out'", I'd choose "tree collision" (Tree collision for us and especially AI units, of course!)

It's the most important thing to fix, to me. :P

I just came to the forums to find out how to turn this off (the mission-start zooming).

I can't believe it's been this way for years and there isn't a way to turn it off.

I use an axis for zoom and cannot interrupt the automatic zoom-out, so I have to sit and wait for the game to "warm up" each time. It's getting VERY annoying.

Axis zoom may not stop it, you're right. Hit Zoom-in or out key to stop it.

By the way; I assigned Zoom-In [*] and Zoom-out [/] commands to mouse-stick on HOTAS. At mission start, it stops, as soons as I touch mouse-stick.

Zoom out, every time, I wouldn't think twice.
