Hi there,

 

New user on the forum, been flying the 51 for some time now.

and i was wondering if any of the skin makers out there is willing to

make a skin of the F-51D 44-63803 of the Kentucky Air National Guard.

Tried it myself but i didn't get very far.

Well put some more work in to it.

it seems that i can't open the front template in gimp 2 anymore.

if anybody got a clean psd. would be very happy.

because i can't get the psd files to behave in gimp.

nice work for first skin, regards constructive criticism i think you want to look at that shade of yellow you have, not in your paint program, but relate the real yellow colour envisioned on your source images to this what you haveand make your changes appropriatly. edit(what i mean is what you have in paint porgram isnt what you have on screen due to layering of shaders to produce the object ingame) good job none the less :thumbup:

 

2nd edit, your green channel is to powerfull in that yellow.

Oke after some more work, i have uploaded the skin to the download area.

So if u want it go get it.

may have to wait for it to show up.

because the upload stated that a moderater needed to look it over first.

Need a P51 Skin for 15th AF, 54th Sqdn. 5th FG

 

Hi all,

 

I am hoping someone could make this skin....

 

My best friends father was a P51 Pilot with the 15th in Italy in WW2

 

He flew for the 15th AF, 54th Squadron, 5th Fighter group, bomber escort.

 

The attached picture of the Model shows his markings. Although he Flew a P51 B or C it doesn't matter.

 

"VF" was for 5th FG, "A" was his plane designation and the letter was probably black, not white

 

The other pictures are for Reference for colors etc.

 

His name on the plane was LT. J.F. Baumann

 

There is no serial number on the model, but could make one up.

 

It would be great if one of you guys could do this one...

Deep and sincere appreciation to AliFish for picking this one up and completing it. It looks phenomenal. The screenshot really doesn't do it justice. But we all know how that goes.

 

As a side note, I just finished reading a book written by Lt. JF Baumann. It details his journey from a Freshman in college to his final mission in Italy as a P51 Fighter Pilot. The details from day one induction into the USAAF to Advanced Fighter Flight training is pure gold. I have a new appreciation for what it takes to accomplish that dream from beginning to end. The Title is "From Freshman to Fighter Pilot in 15 easy Months". It also includes his combat missions flying bomber escort to Berlin and a Huge mission of 1,235 B-17 & B-24 bombers, the largest raid of the War in the Mediterranean theatre. Can you imagine that site! Unfortunately, the book was never published but it should have been. I am fortunate to have a copy... temporarily. Lt. J. Fred Baumann was a P51 Pilot with the 15th in Italy in WW2

When I get a demo routine just right, I will make a final video of the Plane in flight and share it with his son who is not a Sim pilot, but is a talented and Fine Artiste'. He will undoubtedly appreciate what we have done.

 

From the details in his book about the nuances of the handling characteristics and tendencies of the P51, I have a new appreciation of just how well the ED simulated version is modeled.

 

In all reality, can you imagine being a 19 year old college freshman going through training and in 15 months you are flying P51s in Combat? Just Wow!
