Cmptohocah Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Hey all, Just a detail regarding the notch tactics in MiG-29S. I have read here on the forums that the 'filter' Doppler effect speed for F-15 is +/- 50 knots. This basically means that if the target approach speed component is less than 50 knots, the target will be filtered out as ground clutter thus rendering it invisible. By doing some simple calculations it is easy to conclude that for a target flying at around 300km/h ground speed at 70 deg relative to radar lock, forward speed component is around 90km/h, which is just under 50 knots. As far as FC2.0 manual states, azimuth gimbal limit for N-019M Topaz radar is +/-70 degrees which is just enough to keep the target locket and still achieve the notch. This is the theory, I haven't tested this in game but sound promising. Nix:music_whistling: Cmptohocah=CMPTOHOCAH
Cmptohocah Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 I've added the diagram below: Vx is the relative speed component (90km/h) α is the angle relative to the F-15's radar (70deg) Sorry about the picture quality-I've made it using my iPad :smartass: Cmptohocah=CMPTOHOCAH
104th_Maverick Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I haven't tested this in game but sound promising. Debatable! Also you cannot notch a bandit while maintaining lock on him, it is physically impossible. Dear Maverik, i've just explained how it might be possible  And your avatar says it too ;) Edited January 13, 2013 by Cmptohocah Cmptohocah=CMPTOHOCAH
104th_Maverick Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) Lol on the avatar! I know you explained and I'm telling you (nicely), your wrong and it isn't :) But good luck anyway! Get out there and prove me wrong with a video or something ;) Edited January 13, 2013 by [Maverick] [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 104th Phoenix Wing Commander / Total Poser / Elitist / Hero / Chad www.104thPhoenix.com www.facebook.com/104thPhoenix My YouTube Channel
Bandit. Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 as far as my limited knowledge on this goes it seems possible. however, there are some things to consider. the bandit is unlikely to just keep flying on a straight line like that and the second is that you would be very low on energy and basically become a sitting duck in case your maneuver fails.
104th_Maverick Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Yea the maths is kind of sound but there are far to many variables, the best chance for this to ever work is against a transport aircraft or something that can t tell you there. Although I'm not 100% about the Mig radar being 70 degrees I think it is 60 degrees, which kind of messes up the maths! 159th_Viper Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 .....for a target flying at around 300km/h ground speed.... What exactly are you going to fly at 300km/h? A helo? Cmptohocah Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 Hehe, was just a taught. Might not be as practical. Why wouldn't be possible to fly it at 300 km/h? You can even go slower, in fact you can keep on stalling it during the engagement.:pilotfly: Cmptohocah=CMPTOHOCAH
