As far as I can remember yes. When it detects new hardware it thinks it's a new system and must be activated again.

IIRC HW-changes are "awarded" by certain amount of points, and memory upgrade alone should not require new activation. But if you just accumulated enough to reach given threshold, re-activation request was triggered.

There's a list floating around on what values are what.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

There's a list floating around on what values are what.

List is in FC2 Quickstart manual, found in the Doc folder of the installation:

If StarForce detects changes to your computer hardware/software as

described below, an activation will be required. The game include 8 (eight)

activations and 10 (ten) deactivations. It's important to note that deactivations

are utilized to save your activations when altering your PC hardware/software.

Before conducting a PC upgrade/OS re-install, you can deactivate the product

and when complete, reactivate without a loss of activations.

An activation will be required if the hardware/software changes exceed

12 points as rated below:

CPU ID: 13

Windows PID: 3

Computer Name: 3

Hard drive volume serial number: 3

MAC address: 6

RAM amount: 6

Thanks for your answers. I have Vmware installed too, so probably I reach the limit for an activation. I tried to uninstall memory modules, deactivate, install again and reactivate.

Ah, yes, depending on how they are handled, virtual machines and similar things can cause problems - depending on the exact usage scenario, it is possible that DCS simply cannot see what is virtual and what is real. (From what I understand, being able to see that would require that the system include drivers, but as a concession to user privacy and system security Eagle Dynamics elected to not use a DRM system with drivers.)

Are you sure this list is complete and valid? Because I remember I had to re-activate FC2 after I upgraded graphic card (nothing else)...
