Cali Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I watched a show on netflix the other night talking about UAV's and other robotic military machines. From the Predator to the Global Hawk, they have come a long way. I remember when I first saw the Predator, it was back in 2001 at a live fire near Nellis AFB. It was flying at around 15,000-20,000 feet and it was recording the crowd. It displayed the image on a big screen TV they had out there and it was pretty amazing the resolution it had from that height. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
starkey817 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 It's pretty exciting to see how things will change once we can use unmanned systems for commercial purposes. Also here's an interesting fact most people don't realize: Drones were invented just fifteen years after the Wright brothers achieved flight!
cichlidfan Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) Also here's an interesting fact most people don't realize: Drones were invented just fifteen years after the Wright brothers achieved flight! I would imagine the safety and reliability of the aircraft at that time (WWI) acted as quite a motivator for the development of an unmanned version. :P Edited February 10, 2013 by cichlidfan ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! BTTW-DratsaB Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 What myths? I was just glad it wasn't chest thumping USA spiel we get from Discovery/History channel. It actually looked at many things I had not seen before in regards to the history of UAVs and what is coming next. I was pleased to see the talk about the political grey area and humanitarian risk that is involved as well. I think this Doc actually sparked some of the recent interest from the media and public about the use of UAVs (secretive or otherwise). Saudi base etc. You can't please everyone I guess :) Specs: GA-Z87X-UD3H, i7-4770k, 16GB, RTX2060, SB AE-5, 750watt Corsair PSU, X52, Track IR4, Win10x64.
