Shahdoh Posted February 14, 2013 Author Posted February 14, 2013 (edited) Here's a view of the course. Can you beat the time of 174.02? Edited February 14, 2013 by Shahdoh
H00T Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I'm pretty excited about the prospect of online tournament. The mission itself is a must have... one of the best available.
EvilBivol-1 Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 After a few runs, I got 182.xx with no WEP. Was your 174.02 with WEP? - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
Shahdoh Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 H'lo, thanks for the kind words. Been working on another track that's almost ready for release and also have plans for an online competition soon, just ironing out some details. The 174 is probably with WEP though am pretty sure I have turned around 175's without. My best unofficial time, though I think I have a screenshot somewhere is a 172.25. Wep on almost the whole run. Engine management running an engine at full bore becomes a major issue as you can imagine.
Suchacz Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Fantastic mission! The best thing is that the training is very rewarding and the improvements of your course time motivates you to fly it again & again & again... ...& again  Per aspera ad astra! Suchacz Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) Maybe I would add some entry speed limitation, something like if it is higher than 400 knots, than pilot will suffer 10 penalty seconds... My best time is 182,89 (without WEP) and still improving  Edited February 19, 2013 by Suchacz Per aspera ad astra! Shahdoh Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 I had thought about a speed limitation, as the real Red Bull air races do have it for the safety of everyone involved. But, since this is a sim and no one gets hurt and doesn't cost us several million dollars to get a new plane to race. I figure it gives us a chance to push to the very edge of performance. Also as you are learning the Batumi track, you learn that its really a flat out course. The more speed you can take in and carry it through the course, the faster your time will be. The next course in development is another thing altogether. So, for right now, there is a MPH limit on the course, its 506 mph, penalty for exceeding that is your aircraft starts to fall apart. I am looking to have the 1st of a series of competitions around mid to late march. You can keep up to date on the details here: http://www.virtual-aerobatics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=16 Hope you continue to have fun with the course and if you have any other questions or ideas, please share. Thanks, Shahdoh
Shahdoh Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 Finally got a chance to plug in some jets to see how they would fair on the Batumi course and good news, they can fly the course just fine! Just open up the mission in the editor and plug in your favorite jets and have a go at it. One of my testers was able to drop over 40 seconds off the record P-51 time. Will let you explore with which aircraft can do the best on the course. The upcoming Time Trial competition will now include Jet divisions as well. Lets start seeing some of those times and the aircraft you flew it in. Good luck. /Salute 1
SnowTiger Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 (edited) Red Bull Racing on my mind. Ever since purchasing DCS P 51 Mustang, I have been thinking about and wondering if anyone had produced any Red Bull Racing-type Tracks. Although, I have yet to try it (even though the opportunity was there while Shahdoh was helping me get set up but I kept crashing on take-off !!!), I will download the map today and give it a whirl asap. Thanks for creating this map and making it available to us all Shahdoh. EDIT: Btw- I just tried registering in the VA "Virtual Aerobatics" Forum but after several failed attempts at getting the Confirmation Code typed in accurately, I got denied access. I will try it again later today (hoping it will be reset by then) but I seem to be having difficulty seeing the numbers/letters accurately. Who knows whether I'll be ready to compete in any Race Events any times soon, but I'd love to try it. SnowTiger Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I'm doin' okay for a Newbie. I have flown the Time Trials track about 15-20 times in total now. Many of those have ended in crashes. But I have a few times that I am happy with although they don't compete much with others' results. My last flight (yesterday) was my best time at 204:06. Prior to that, my 3 best times were (in the following order) as follows: 227:14 220:86 215:56 It's a fun course. But I have no idea how anyone flies this course in a Jet ? I would love to see others flying this course to pick up some tips and simply for the enjoyment. sslechta Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 But I have no idea how anyone flies this course in a Jet ? I would love to see others flying this course to pick up some tips and simply for the enjoyment. Very carefully...... I'm fairly new to this so this way is just one of many. I try to keep it between 250 and 350 knots most of the way. If I get a little too fast, I'll cut the throttle all the way back and bank harder into the next turn. That slows me down faster. Once I get down to 200-250, the opposite, slam it on to full throttle. Hard turns work better for me to slow down than air braking. If you try to pull a hard turn above 350 though, you start to black out. So there's a sweet spot between stalling and blacking out. Have fun! It's been a blast for me. Nice lesson in flying under 500 feet and seeing your shadow get close to you. ;) Steve (Slick) ThrustMaster T.Flight Hotas X | TrackIR5 Pro | EVGA GTX 1070 | Win10 64-bit Professional | Dell Precision 7920 Workstation | 1 TB SSD | 128 GB Memory | Dual Intel Xeon Platinum 2.0 GHz 16 Core Processors (64 Total w/HT ON) | 24" Dell Monitor

Shahdoh Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 Glad to see some results being posted. Keep em coming! As far as the jets, not sure how they do it without blacking out either, but I have witnessed 2 jet pilots (Storm being 1 of them) that I have had the pleasure to see first hand them fly the course in under 130 seconds. Just have this to say, A LOT of Airbraking and A LOT more afterburners! B) For the P-51, low 170's is getting very competitive of the fastest pilots I know about. My personal best so far is a 169.36 but will call that unofficial since I failed to get a screen of it.... Keep practicing, planning on a Batumi TT competition at the end of the month (Mar 30-31) /Salute
sslechta Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 OK, got my time down to 158.71 seconds in the F-15. Still have a ways to go to catch the real pros here that are getting in the 122 second range. I also had a chance to create my first movie.... It's captured by Fraps-Free (until I can buy the full version) and edited with Microsoft Movie Maker (also free). wolle Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 question about slalom gates Hi guys, Tried the course for the first time a little bit last night (maybe flew through it twice). I always get a "DNF" because I missed the slalom gates. I don't understand, how can one miss them, since they are not gates that you need to fly through. As long as you pass them on the proper side that should count. Obviously I misunderstand something... What are the rules for properly passing the slalom gates? sslechta Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Here are the instructions you get prompted with when starting the mission. Key point is less than 300 ft through/around gates. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to Shahdoh's Time Trials - Batumi 2013 This is a Redbull style air race, 1 person on the course at a time. 1st one in the "course" area will be tracked through the gates and time will be given when there are no aircraft in the course.Select an aircraft and there is a map of the course in the briefing. Gate 1 will start the timer. There is a 10 second penalty for missed gates and miss more then 3 gates and you will be disqualified. You will also be disqualified if you leave the course without going through gate 17. Please be curteous to other pilots, if you have flown the course, exit and please wait to see if another wishes to go. If clear, then proceed to reenter the course. Would hate to have to put in controls in how frequent the course can be ran. Thank you for your cooperation. Its a nice, calm, sunny day in Batumi. Channel A is set for Batumi Tower. Any questions or comments, Please contact Shahdoh on the server or PM him on the DCS forums. Hope you enjoy the racing. Shahdoh Gate 1 is entered from the south with a max alt of 300 feet (this applies to all gates and is approximately the tops of the oil rigs) and will be marked with 2 flares. Gate 2 is the start of a 3 single pylon slalom. Make a left hand turn heading west to Gate 3. Pass gate 3 on the left hand side with a roll to the right to setup for gate 4. Do a left hand turn heading south towards double pylon gate 5. Continue the left turn and you will see 2 sets of double pylons close to each other. Gate 6 is the 2nd set on your left. Pass through this gate and pull hard left to come around through the pylons you passed up. and is gate 7. Continue heading east and you will be heading for what was gate 1, It is now Gate 8, A slight left turn (NE) will set you up for Gate 9. Here do an Immelman turn to go back through what was gate 1 & 8 which is now Gate 10. At this point, you are flying the course in reverse all the way back to the start.
