Looks like it's a monster! but have you priced out the parts to see how much it would cost to build it yourself? You really don't need a sound card, onboard sound card should be fine. I was gonna buy a sound card, but opt not to and glad I did. Also, do you need a 1000W PSU, how much stuff are you gonna have connected? I have a 750W and have 10+ USB devices hooked to it. If price is not an issue, then I'd say get it.

Quite good rig! But I'd reject optical drive. Today you can mostly download BluRays from various nice sites :)

I haven't used optical drive for 3 years...

I'd keep the optical drive, they can be used to install games, other programs, transfer data via CD's and DVD's, watch and play music/movies on your computer. I think I'll have one on my computer for many years to come.

I've used my DVD-reader to install Windows. That's pretty much it. :)

We finally got Netflix and HBO Online over here, so I stream all my movies and docus and my games are digital download (usually through Steam).

But that's me, it's not strictly necessary to be such an online-fanatic as me. :)

my new rig rocks DCS A-10, P-51, BS2 - check my sig.

I went for the PRO version of the mobo as it has onboard wifi, and better OC option for the future (no plan to to OC til I need to) :)

Keep in mind that the 690 is a dual GPU card so your memory is effectively only 2GB (each GPU uses its own) and I am not sure what value the additional card would offer.

BTW, I still use an optical drive though I don't need all of the ones I have installed. I use them for archiving data more than anything else. Just picked up a Blue-Ray writer this week as a matter of fact.

On the p8z68 MB it required ram with 1.5 volts. NON Higher . You will want to check on that spec.

Also consider the risk of an SSD dying in 6 month that has your main OS. Since your buying 6GB Harddrives you could RAID 1 and get a 64gb ssd and deploy the INTEL SRT giving you SSD performance on a reliable mechanical drive.

You would need to change the drives to RAID Edition 5 year warranty drives though.

Iff an SSD dies in srt cache then it doesn't cause any harm. I still don't trust SSD drives to hold main OS. Still have to back up the c partition.

I might get a different PSU if only to get a modular one but I also generally prefer to go for 80Plus Gold rather than Bronze rated PSUs. It's the only component in the box that can potentially destroy any and all of your other components if it fails badly.

It looks awesome... I recommend Corsair as memory, about the PSU, as cichlidfan said, if it's a 80plus and modular one, it's all good. Personally I'm really happy with my Antec HCG, Seasonic is fine as well.

Stick with a wired headset, perhaps a Steelseries

SSD sounds like a free upgrade going backwards... consider the 180Gb (or higher) Intel 520 series and also consider running two. One for the OP. Sys. ( C:\ )and the other ( E:\ )to install sims/ games on.

A modular PSU is the way to go, much better to only have the cords you need, instead of having them all over the place restricting air flow.

heard only good things about these. V low profile and v overclockable.

price has gone down some 20 quid so I'm tempted to replace mine as the corsair stuff I have just sits a little too close to my heat sink and fan.

With those I'd have no issues and wouldn't mind overclocking them quite high as others have.
