In the training mission it's as easy as set your knob to mark point, on the warthog TMS right, each push of TMS right creates a new markpoint.

However, when actually flying a mission repeating this process does not give me a mark point and instead does nothing. Changing the selector knob to markpoint and pressing tms right when I have a target in point track mode does not seem to work. The hud continues to display markpoint A. Any ideas why or what I might be doing wrong?

Have you tried cycling through your new markpoints? If I remember right, when you have a markpoint selected, the system won't actually cycle to your newly created markpoint. You have to do that manually. Just keep an eye on your CDU when you use TMS right; it should indicate to you when a new markpoint has been created.

You can cycle through waypoints with DMS up/down (with HUD as SOI), the Steerpoint rocker switch on the UFC, or the Steerpoint toggle switch on the AAP.

if i'm not mistaken, every time you hit tms right it should create mark point a, b, c, d, etc etc.......and on the CDU you need to switch to markpoint to cycle through them using the DMS up/ down command. i could be wrong about that.....

Cycling the mark points does not change the tgp view, the mark points are not being saved for some reason. In the training mission when I create a mark point, it automatically changes the mark point reading in the hud to b. Every press of TMS right on the warthog saves and changes and moved to the next mark point. And then in training, yes the mark point cycle. Not working in a mission though, it's as if the tms right is non-functinal and not doing anything. I'm sure I don't have something set right but don't know what.

You should upload a track so that we can take a closer look.

From your description I'd say the MarkPoints are created just fine, you just need to properly select them as Steerpoint exactly as NoCarrier said.

To slave the TGP to Steerpoint, use China Hat Aft Long. It's probably this step that you performed during the training but did not perform in the mission.

I'm not sure about the automatic MarkPoint selection you described, but it should become clear if you post a track of the training as well.

Create markpoints tms right.

To review markpoints turn the knob on the cdu closest to your right leg to mark.

Set hud to soi and use DMS up and down to cycle the markpoints. I use the hud as soi to cycle as its easy to see which mark is being looked at in the bottom right of the display.

China hat aft long should slave sensors to markpoint, then when you cycle through the marks the sensors (tgp) should follow.

Be sure you are in the correct mode to view and change Markpoints that you create. Set the dial below the CDU from Flight Plan or Mission, to the "center" position... "Mark". Then on the UFC, press "Func">"8" (Mark). If the HUD is SOI, they can then be cycled with the DMS (up/Down), once designated as a Markpoint with the TMS short right command, they will act just like a just like a waypoint. If the HUD is not SOI, use the rocker switch on the far left side of the UFC to cycle them. As soon as I approach a target area, if I don't quickly find a target, I set a point on the ground in the area as SPI, change over to "Mark" and that point becomes Markpoint "A" as a reference. This simplifies returning your TGP to the general area to continue searching, simply by returning to "A" with a Chinahat Long Forward.

To do so, use the UFC rocker switch or if the HUD is SOI, use the DMS and select Markpoint "A" (BTW, you will see a Mark "Z" that indicates the end of the cycle before the next is "A" again. It will show in the lower right of the HUD as well as on the CDU... then set the TGP as SOI, Chinahat Forward Long, and your TGP and MAV will both slave to that point. HTH.

I am a HUGE fan of using Markpoints to designate and cycle targets.

PS... one word of caution... be sure and confirm the markpoint either on the HUD or CDC, or you can easily bomb an already dead target. Check the Markpoint, select the one you want, and set it as SOI in the desired sensor with CH Long Fwd.

Sorry guys you were right, just got to test this and it is creating and changing markpoints on the CDU. In the training mission my hud change from mark point A to b then to c and so on, but in the campaign it's changing on the CDU and not the hud so that's what threw me off. Is there anyway to reflect markpoint record success via the hud? Again thanks all and sorry about that.

In order to see the Markpoint designator on the lower right HUD, you need to select "Mark" on the dial below the CDU, Not Flight Plan or Mission, but Mark. Then on the UFC, press "func" then "8", which has "MARK" printed below it. Your TAD will no longer display "Waypoints", but rather "Markpoints" which unless they are widely separated, you'll only see one point with a wedding cake on the selected Mark Point.

thanks .... I'm with you on that part, but i'm talking about when designating a mark point with tgp as soi. in training mission i was in mark mode and each designation would automatically change the hud markpoint cue indicator to the next markpoint letter.

tms right

hud auto switch to mark b

tms right

hud auto switch to mark c

and so on

in campaign first mission the hud never chanes after desination, but as you all indicated my cdu was changing each time. im in mark mode when designating so the question is should the hud also auto switch to the next mark point after a designation?

Brilliant just what I was looking for. :)

Getting back into this after a while away and when I was creating mark points I was not seeing them and thought I was doing something wrong, was causing all sorts of problems.

You folks have just made it all go away,

Cheers,

Mick. :) :)

Just set the dial, then make the function change in the UFC then your HUD will display the changes and allow you to cycle them via DMS up/down if the HUD is SOI. If the HUD is not SOI, the DMS will not cycle them.
