Flying the Ka-50?

Recommended Posts

There is neither autopilot yet nor any SAS in Ka-50 model but it's not hard to fly it even now.

May I ask if any auto-pilot system (even only an altitude hold) is planned? :)

Will partial rotor damage be moddled? As in extreme vibrations after a tip of a rotor has ben shot off, or due to blade crossing. Will the rocket extraction system (K-37-800) be moddled with accurate parameters, or will it be like current ejection seats in lockon?

1. ... overflapping is a very dangerous factor in Ka-50 because of blade crossing risk. Blade crossing of upper and lower rotors destroys rotors and leads to instant accident.

Is that modeled in 1.2?

Here's a vid of what I would assume Blade crossing would look like ;). Vid As the Stallion pulls up he chops the top of his refueling rod off.

Vortex Ring State, aka Settling with Power.

Not to start a fight but Vortex Ring State and settling with power are two very different problems. Many of us helo pilots still get that wrong for some reason, but it isn't the same problem and requires different actions on the part of the pilot.

VRS happens when your downward vertical speed is too high when you have very little forward speed. You get sucked into the downwash, adding power in this case will only make the problem worse and you will fall faster. The answer for the pilot is to lower power and gain airspeed ASAP to get lift back.

Settling with power can lead to VRS but it is very different at first. In this case you do not have enough power to keep the helo in a hover. Power is on but you will sink anyway, if there is any reserve power that you can pull, doing it may solve the problem and stop the settling. If you are already at max power then do not drop power but try gain airspeed as quickly as you can. Dropping power in this case will just cause you to fall faster and put you in more danger then is needed.

Knowing the problem is very important to keeping your helo airborn :)

Yes. As the flapping is physically modeled blade crossing will be available to model too. Vibrations are also naturally modelled as the blades are damaged.

Ground effect will be done too.

The most hard thing to math modelling is VR but we are working on it. All in all this effect is essential and it will done.
