Ice
Ever since Lockon has been patched it has allways puzzled me (and others) why the default connection speed is still 33.6. I guess the only logical reason is that most Russians play on 56k and for 2 or 3 players this is recommended. Fair enough I say. However would it be possible that for the english patches at least it be changed to 128/128. It is consensous that this is the best speed to join servers hosting at 1024/128 or higher. For instance the 169th dedicated hosts at 2048/2048 and this with 128/128 clients works extremely well. Han, You might remember the majority of players joining forget to change to 128/128 after a fresh install. So if there is a good explananation why this cant be done these please tell us. So we dont wonder in amazement why this has never been changed.
chennuts
It's the player's responsibility to set their configuration to the correct connection speed setting for their system and bandwidth. Do you leave your graphics settings at default after a fresh install, then get upset because the settings aren't what you think they should be? :)
169th_DedCat
Thanks for that worthless reply chennuts. The default connection speed not only causes problems for faster servers and clients, but most new players don't even realize that it causes a problem, or that they have the option of changing it to something much more stable until someone else guides them through it online. The real responsibility is to the developer to either make the the option clearly accessible to the user when he enters a multiplayer game, or to predict appropriately the best speed for that particular user. 33.6 is not an appropriate connection speed for fast connections--it causes stability problems, it's proven--changing your default connection speed involves hunting through furtive submenus and dropping your connection to the server and then starting it back up again. Any sense of responsiblity to be forced through all this rigamarole is lost on the average newbie, they just want to get in the air and shoot some real people. A lot of regulars no doubt forget to reset it on occasion after a reinstall. Changing the default speed should be either obvious to the user, or else it should be something simple for the developers to fix in only one language version of the patch. 1 Play Hard - Play Fair Squadron Leader "DedCat" 169th Panthers - http://www.169thpanthers.net
Bouddha
One more question. Is it necessary when not hosting but joining a game to put 33.6 or should we put what we have ? In past it was recommended to set to 33.6 when connection to a server even if we had more than that.
SUBS17
128/128 is the normal connection speed, thats a good idea setting this to the default setting somehow. 1 [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
S77th-GOYA
Timeout settings also.
504 Wolverine
I would agree that the timeout settings should be changed (1.12?) but I also agree with chennuts, connection speed like other settings is down to the user to change. Not everyone has access to broadband. [/url]
Gazehound
It would be better to provide a manual section covering this, so people could know how to connect based on their settings/server settings. VVS504 Red Hammers
