Sn8ke Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 I know flight sims are largely CPU intensive, however video cards do have a role in smooth gameplay. Are there any titan users out there? If so did it make a huge difference on DCS when you switched to the card? Asus ROG Maximus X Apex//Core I7 8700K @ 5.3Ghz //32GB DDR4 RAM//Asus 3090 RTX//4K monitor w/ TrackIR 5
Subliminal-SS Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 (edited) Huge from a GTX 580 not really. I'm still getting 27 FPS when I look back at my airfield I filled with F/A-18C A-10C and Apaches on a user generated mission. Definately not to justify getting rid of the GTX 580 and then dumping 1k on a Titan. My Circumstances were slighty different to this, I had a 3gb GTX 580 Prior to the Titan. Id say the Board and CPU I got gave me the most difference as when Im in complex missions like the campaign I dont experience the slow down I did. And I see you have them SLI-d definitely stick with what you have got. You would be disappointed if you purchased one. Having sold what you have I'm assuming would be the route. Let me know if you want to send me a scenario or ask me to do a mission and ill record the FPS with whatever settings you have, that way you will be able to see the difference. Sn8ke Posted April 25, 2013 Author Posted April 25, 2013 Thanks for the input! We have the same mobo, and I have the core i7 2600k, 4.6ghz. I'm very happy with the 589gtx, I have 60 fps under most conditions. I just had to RMA my second card, and although my replacement card should arrive next week, I thought it would be worth it to do some product research on the latest and greatest video cards. $1k is alot for a card that will just make it slightly smoother during complex campaigns. -Rudel- Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 I see no issues in upgrading yet. I run SLI'd 580s as well with great results. I do have a Titan sitting on my desk, but I'm waiting for the funds to buy another. https://magnitude-3.com/ https://www.facebook.com/magnitude3llc https://www.youtube.com/@magnitude_3 i9 13900K, 128GB RAM, RTX 4090, Win10Pro, 2 x 2TB SSD, 1 x 15TB SSD U.2 i9 10980XE, 128GB RAM, RTX 3090Ti, Win10 Pro, 2 x 256GB SSD, 4 x 512GB SSD RAID 0, 6 x 4TB HDD RAID 6, 9361-8i RAID Controller i7 4960X, 64GB RAM, GTX Titan X Black, Win10 Pro, 512GB PCIe SSD, 2 x 256GB SSD
LeLv30_Superbus Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Upgraded to Titan from HD 6970 and the change was noticable but not dramatic. Most of all I'm happy I can now use HDR for the first time without bright white flashing squares in the picture. An AMD driver issue which was never fixed. SkateZilla Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Titan XL and Titan LE are due out soon. Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
WarthogSmurf Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Just got the titan myself because of the 3x screens and it really is a nice card just for a single GPU. ofc dual gpu will do more fps but SLI can be tough to configure right. Thats said if EDGE comes and an engine that supports dual GPU i so gonna get a second titan =)
SkateZilla Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 i wasnt impressed with the performance:price ratio Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
blkspade Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 The Titan would probably be overkill if you primarily intend to play DCS, on a single monitor at standard resolutions. http://104thphoenix.com/
Sn8ke Posted April 26, 2013 Author Posted April 26, 2013 I figured its best for those with multi monitors. I have maxed out settings minus civilian traffic and trees, and I get 60 fps under most conditions. If it dips below 60 is is most likely because the cpu is being taxed, not the gpu. The titan does sound good though! Asus ROG Maximus X Apex//Core I7 8700K @ 5.3Ghz //32GB DDR4 RAM//Asus 3090 RTX//4K monitor w/ TrackIR 5

SkateZilla Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 (edited) i cannot list a source, but i've already seen sku's and engineering samples. Like I said when Titan launched, nVidia has a stock pile of K20X/GK110 Chips sitting in a ware house because they aren't moving. So, they laser cut the advanced features off, and convert it to a gaming chip. Titan XL will have all Shaders enabled (Current Titan doesnt) Titan LE will have more shaders disabled. So, for examples sake: Titan XL: $1200 Titan: $1000 Titan LE: $799 All three will still be more powerful than the GTX680, The only difference is the GPUs have been modified to remove professional feature sets. nVidia is just happy to be moving the chips, they are gonna flood the market with them. -Rudel- Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 So the XL is more of a professional series rather than gaming? Thanks for the info.. https://magnitude-3.com/ https://www.facebook.com/magnitude3llc https://www.youtube.com/@magnitude_3 i9 13900K, 128GB RAM, RTX 4090, Win10Pro, 2 x 2TB SSD, 1 x 15TB SSD U.2 i9 10980XE, 128GB RAM, RTX 3090Ti, Win10 Pro, 2 x 256GB SSD, 4 x 512GB SSD RAID 0, 6 x 4TB HDD RAID 6, 9361-8i RAID Controller i7 4960X, 64GB RAM, GTX Titan X Black, Win10 Pro, 512GB PCIe SSD, 2 x 256GB SSD
SkateZilla Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 (edited) XL is the same as the titan thats out now, except the GPU is 100% enabled and cherry picked. the current titan has shaders disabled. XL will most likely run at 900-1000MHz all of the Titan GPUS (XL. LE, Original), are Professional the Professional GK110 (H20 and H20X) GPUs with HyperQ and Dynamic Parallelism disabled and non ECC Ram. Bandit. Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I am also thinking of upgrading from a gtx 580 to a titan. do you think there would be a noticeable upgrade in performance even without changing my i7 920 cpu? kind waiting for haswell to upgrade cpu. I am only concerned with the performance effect in dcs.
TZeer Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Currently running a single GTX Titan. Quite happy with the performance. But as stated from others, if your CPU is not among the quickest, you will still get hit by sloppy performance in crowded areas. This is due to number of objects in the game world is handled by the CPU and not the GPU. Looking away from that, the titan does a very good job for me. I'm currently running 2560x1440 resolution. Vsync on so have 60 FPS most of the time, can dip down to about 40 at the lowest, but that's not the Titans fault.
Dutch60 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Running Dual EVGA GTX Titan Super Clocked.
