Maachine Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 so i've gotten pretty good with the A-10C. i know i'm not as capable as i could be due to the fact i dont have track IR or a high end gaming machine. i'm using a laptop with a 19" screen and facetrackNOIR. which in my opinion, is garbage. it works, but not nearly as precise as track IR. to sum this up. i've sort of hit a block with skill advancement due to lack of proper hardware. has anyone experienced this same thing? i'm hoping by the end of this summer i'll have a high end desktop and a single (large) monitor to play this game in 1080p. i think i will enjoy this game a whole lot more when i get some hardware.
Cookie Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 The one single thing that made the biggest difference for me was the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS. Can´t even imagine flying the A-10 without it anymore. - Two miles of road lead nowhere, two miles of runway lead everywhere - Click here for system specs
Nealius Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 I am experiencing it now with a lack of an HD monitor. I am still using a six-year old LCD monitor and I can't see ground vehicles until I am 1~1.5nm away from them.
311Gryphon Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with FaceTrackNoIR. I mean, I hate that I'm struggling with it and don't want others to as well. It works but it's much too fidgety and doesn't allow as much movement as I would like to have. Furthermore, if I have to set quite a large dead zone and it is still fidgety and if I set it any larger it becomes completely unstable. Then I only have so much room to get my range of camera movement so I wind up with a completely horizontal line followed by an almost vertical line in the curves. And it still doesn't work that well. It's nice, but not that nice. So I think I'm going to buy TrackIR. I will agree that the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS controls are awesome. A bit frivolous in my mind and now I'm trying to find other good simulators to play to try to make up for spending so much on USED flight controls. But they are awesome and I do not have buyers remorse for getting them. I did hit a road block before the HOTAS showed up in the mail. Now even with the fidgety face tracking it is fun to play. I'm still not very good at it either. I find this rather refreshing considering that so far all of the other flight simulators I've played with this particular setup have either been boring or next to impossible. At least with A-10C I'm rewarded for my patience and hard work. Every other game seems to be overly complex just to be overly complex with no payoff, or they are far too easy and don't classify as a simulator. Even P-51D in DCS is so frustrating that I hardly ever even attempt to fly it, which is a bummer for me because I really like WWII planes. So now, to stop rambling, I have to say "keep it up"! I think A-10C is probably the most worth while game to power through the frustration for. http://www.youtube.com/user/311Gryphon i7-8700, 32 GB DDR4 3000, GTX 1080 TI 11GB, 240 GB SSD, 2TB HDD, Dual (sometimes Triple) monitor, TM Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Combat Pedals, TrackIR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Maverick_ Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 facetrack is worth the time spent fidgiting with the curves if you take the time to really smooth the curves and add extra points etc it is well worth it. I have very small dead zones, about 5 points on all axis' but still dont have much extra movement, the only issue i have run into is the need for consistent even lighting, in the dark it becomes 100% unusable. Oznerol256 Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Im using a led cap with FreeTrack. Im not experiencing any problems with litte movement room or any deadzones. I dont think that ill upgrade to a TrackIR because FreeTrack works perfectly for me. I dont see any point in throwing a few hunded bucks at some company when i get the same quality without spending that money. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Nealius Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I went the lazy route with my Freetrack and just bought a TrackClip Pro instead of making my own LED model. It works perfectly for me.
Maachine Posted April 29, 2013 Author Posted April 29, 2013 i'll give that a shot with the freetrack. good ideas. facetrackNOIR is much too fidgety. i have setup lighting to be the best that i can get but its still slow and unresponsive sometimes. it frustrates the crap out of me. i just want something smooth and effective so i dont have to use snap views so much. not only that, but just having a big monitor would be helpful. wont have to zoom in as much to see things. i do have an x-52. which is working out well actually. only issue i have is i had to add curvature to do refueling. i dont like having that much curvature. the plane flies weird to me and seems pretty unresponsive.
Oznerol256 Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 The thing with freetrack is that you will get pretty good results once you have set it up correctly. This means you need to measure your led-cap/clip/whatever very exact or the tracking wont be good. Apart from that, you may need to place your camera higher or lower in order to get enough tracking space up/down. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Devrim Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I have been using FreeTrack for years. It's OK. But last week I tried to use FaceTrack - just cruious. I did many many adjustments, but couldn't find a stable attitude. As Maachine said, it's fidgety. Most of time, I do very little head movements to right or left way. But FaceTrack does it much more than I need. It doesn't stop in a direction that I'm looking at. Whatever. I decided to go back for FreeTrack. When I've done that, I said "Ohh my!". Now FreeTrack is like TrackIR. :) And I uninstalled FaceTrack... 1 Intel i7-14700@5.6GHz | MSI RTX4080 SuperSuprimX | Corsair V. 64GB@6400MHz. | Samsung 1TB 990 PRO SSD (Win10Homex64) Samsung G5 32" + Samsung 18" + 2x8"TFT Displays | TM Warthog Stick w/AVA Base | VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle | TM MFD Cougars | Logitech G13, G230, G510, PZ55 & Farming Sim Panel | TIR5 & M.Quest3 VR >>MY MODS<< | Discord: Devrim#1068
311Gryphon Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I know some people have gotten FaceTrackNoIR to work very, very well. It's worth a shot especially if you already have a decent webcam to use. I thought about trying FreeTrack but I've already invested $30 in FTNoIR and didn't want to buy the Track Clip Pro to try FreeTrack. So I broke down today and ordered TrackIR. I'm very happy for people that can get those things to work. Anytime you can be resourceful and get good results is an awesome time. I can't find stability in FTNoIR; however, and while it works a little it also gets very frustrating at least 50% of the time when it holds stable as I'm looking at a switch in the cockpit but as soon as I mouse to the switch the camera twitches, or when I'm ALMOST in the correct position to view an MFCD and then it loses me and suddenly I'm looking straight up out of the cockpit...those times stink. http://www.youtube.com/user/311Gryphon i7-8700, 32 GB DDR4 3000, GTX 1080 TI 11GB, 240 GB SSD, 2TB HDD, Dual (sometimes Triple) monitor, TM Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Combat Pedals, TrackIR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
