flyboy993 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Hey guys, I have a REALLY annoying problem here. I will start up DCS World and play my A-10C module. Everything is kosher at the beginning of the flight, I get a solid 22 FPS (I have locked it there). However, after about 2 or 3 minutes of flight, the FPS drops to an unplayable 10-15. Here are my laptops specs... A8-4500M at 1.9Ghz-2.4Ghz Radeon 7640G 512MB 6GB DDR3 RAM I think to issue might be RAM, but then again, I am no expert. If you have any advice on the problem please let me know, thanks alot guys. Your system is pretty low end with a 7640G and 512MB. This is not really a laptop game or a OEM game. Its a sim for die hard fans I spend $1200 just to be able to play this sim and it's still got FPS issues. The engine is very un-optimized for sure but all we can do is have the best of the best when it comes to hardware. Sn8ke Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Your CPU does not have the power to run this sim. You need at least a 1155 2600k core i7, which can oc to 4.6ghz just fine Asus Prime Gaming Wifi7 // Intel 14900K @5.5GHz // 64Gb DDR5 6000MHz // 3090 RTX // 4TB Samsung NVME M.2

CJ I am using everything on low except for scenes which are on medium and textures which are on high. AA is at 4x, HDR is off, resolution is 1366x768. All of the check boxes are off and all the slider are dragged to the left. Thanks. flyboy993 Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Turn off AA, try that. Okay, I'll see what happens. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Some good old-fashioned red, white, and blue American Grade-A, top-choice beef sirloin, whoop-ass"
flyboy993 Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Okay, I'll see what happens. No change from AA except for getting a better frame rate at the beginning. I think the problem is coming from effects such as fires and explosions. But is a 5 FPS drop normal for one or two burning trucks. Unfortunately your system is dipping really close to the bottom end for DCS World, its quite possible smoke would effect you that much... Best you can do is try and save FPS where you can, but sounds like you are already running quite low settings. Maybe someone else has some suggestions. But I would leave AA off. Rhinox Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Unfortunately your system is dipping really close to the bottom end for DCS World... If his system is bottom-end, how do you call this: Operating system 64-bit: Windows Vista and 7; Processor: CPU: Core 2 Duo E8400, AMD Phenom X3 8750 or better; Memory: 4GB; Hard disk space: 7 GB; Video: Shader 3.0 or better; 896MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX260 DirectX 9.0c or better; Sound: DirectX 9.0c - compatible; DirectX: 9.0C; requires internet activation. Guess what? Yeah, those are "recommended system requirements" for DCS:World! And I'm not gonna copy&paste those "minimal", I do not want to risk someone die from laughter... :-D
ED Team NineLine Posted May 3, 2013 ED Team Posted May 3, 2013 yeah, those might be a little out dated :) But its probably a little hard to nail down as World is ever evolving it seems :) If his system is bottom-end, how do you call this: Operating system 64-bit: Windows Vista and 7; Processor: CPU: Core 2 Duo E8400, AMD Phenom X3 8750 or better; Memory: 4GB; Hard disk space: 7 GB; Video: Shader 3.0 or better; 896MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX260 DirectX 9.0c or better; Sound: DirectX 9.0c - compatible; DirectX: 9.0C; requires internet activation. Now, you add in HEAT and DYNAMIC Clocks. (and every laptop has crap Cooling, so most of them idle and load in higher temps) As soon as heat gets to a point, the APU and GPU Cores will throttle from 2.4 to 1.9GHz (686Mhz to 497Mhz for the GPU) Actually the 7640G runs 497 and Boosts to 686 if TDP Permits. The HD7640G Performance is also worse than the Intel HD4000 Processor, which cant run DCS A-10C, let alone DCSW. The IGP uses shared memory and memory close, and only has 16 Texture Units and 8 ROPs for 256 Shaders. And 512MB is below the "recommended" specs. Along with the CPU, as it will hardly run in it's boost state, unless you hook a serious cooling solution to the unit. the IGP is SM5.0, but it's the bottom end of every performance chart. the IGP is meant to run lower spec titles (ie Xbox Ports and Older DX8/9 games) Edited May 3, 2013 by SkateZilla Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
flyboy993 Posted May 3, 2013 Author Posted May 3, 2013 Thanks for all the help, I know my system is pretty crappy for what I am throwing at it and I plan to upgrade soon, but is system heat buildup causing a significant CPU throttling problem? And of course, is it possible for me to get more FPS? Thanks for the feedback. SkateZilla Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 download sensor monitoring program and monitor temps. HWiNFO 64 does well on laptops. dcds1 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I am not sure what OS you are using, but I went to Window 8 Pro 64 bit and started having the same problems you are talking about. I went back to Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit and my fps are back above 30 fps steady.
