hi guys

I use the Track IR 4 and notice that I can't adjust zoom in the SU25T. Even though I've mapped controls (default is the mouse scroll), nothing seems to work ingame (esp MP games) ie. I can't zoom out or in (esp out). I'm then stuck at flying the plane with my head almost stuck on the HUD panel!!

I know there are some fixes here but I didn't get much from doing a search, and there are hundreds of threads to sift through to try and find something.

Hopefully someone can post fixes here.

Well, try this. I had a problem where I couldn't zoom in/out at start of mission until I hit numpad5 to center the view and then I could zoom in/out just fine, even when moving my head around with TrackIR. Try that out.

Check for joystick axis not to be assigned to zoom. if the are they would overlap with other controls.

at the start of the mission there is a small zoom animation... supposely has some purpose but you can bypass it if you press Num* or NumEnter. Num* zooms in and Num/ zooms out in cockpit... if you press them and the view quickly snaps back to where it started it could be an axis from joystick, gamepad etc.

Also... it might be a problem with default input settings and this would require you to edit some lua file.

Go to DCS game directory\Mods\mod of choice\Input\Plane of choice\Trackir and DCS game directory\Mods\mod of choice\Input\Plane of choice\Trackir and open default.lua files in there and see what they say about zoom axis... some are disabled... aka missing text in ZOOM line. Try to look at what same files say for planes that have workable Zoom axist with Trackir.

Also if you didn't installed some view mods that altered your snap views... usually they modify \config\view\SnapViewsDefault.lua and Server.lua entries about how your head is positioned in cockpit for each plane and how are your viewing limits set... including zoom.

Be carefull when editing those.

Use only!!!! Notepad++ and do backup.

What is most likely the case, is that your TrackIR's Z-axis (forward back) is still mapped to zoom in/out for the Su-25T. Any Z axis movement from the TrackIR is overriding any other zoom function.

You need to remap your TrackIR Z-axis assignment to "cockpit forward/back" in the control options. This will make the TrackIR's forward/back independent from the zoom control.

From memory I don't think I had anything mapped in the zoom axis settings. It was blank and I wasn't sure what to add. I couldn't map anything to it via my HOTAS either.

Anyway, I'll have another go tonight. I don't have this problem with any of the other a/c and I've only just reinstalled DCSW.

Personally, I have been playing with this problem.

I personally use a modifier button setup within the game controls (Hotas Stick spare button) that toggles me between TrackIR z Axis controlling the zoom for the zoom axis or for the camera forward/back zoom.

I also have another (Hotas button for setting the zoom to default)

Use the snapview stuff to fix.

  • Set ingame track-ir z axis set to zoom axis and not the cockpit camera zoom forward / backwards axis as the cockpit doen't fully support 6dof because it is only a Flaming Cliffs model and not full DCS quality.
  • Disable track IR temporarily for the next steps to work ok
  • Load DCSW and get into default cockpit view
  • Check zoom levels
    • Use numpad-/ and * to zoom in and out (between 20' - 140' FOV)
    • Use numpad-Enter to go to Default zoom level
    • Use Numpad-0 to go to Default view mode

[*]If not happy with any of the above angles:

    • Use Numpad-5 to centre view
    • Use numpad-0 to see quick look the default view
    • Re-adjust Default view to your tastes using
      • Numberpad-/, Numberpad-* (zoom in and out)
      • Numberpad-2, Numberpad-8 (Camera up and down)
      • Numberpad-4, Numberpad-6 (Camera left and Right)
      • Right-Shift+Right-Control + Numberpad-2, 4, 6, 8 (Seat adjust up down, left and right)

[*]When you have the default view the the way you would like it:

      • Left-Windows + Numberpad-0 (to quick look old Default view)
      • Right-Alt + Numberpad-0 (save Snapview of new Default view)
      • Numberpad-0 (check new view has saved as you wanted)

  • For setting the default Zoom position
    • Use Numpad-5 (Centre view)
    • Use Numpad-enter (Default Zoom)
    • Re-adjust Zoom view to your tastes using
      • Numpad-/, Numpad-* (zoom in and out)

[*]When you have the default view the the way you would like it:

      • Right-Alt + Numberpad-0 (save Snapview of new zoom view)
      • Left-Windows + Numpad-5 (to quick look Default view)
      • Right-Alt + Numberpad-0 (save Snapview of new Default view)
      • LEFT-Windows + Numpad-5 (Check new Default view)
      • Numberpad-0 (check new view has saved as you wanted)

[*]Shutdown DCSW, fire up track IR, fire up DCSW and retest.

Hope that helps, looks complicated and you can get mixed up a bit, I have trouble with getting the default zoom level right, so instructions on that my be a little out, but the other snap views are quite easy.

Basically you just press

  • Left-Win + Numpad 0 ... 9 number for the view you want to change
  • Change it with the camera controls on Numpad 0 ..... 9
  • Right-Alt + Numpad-0 to save new position.

Want more detailed help with this, see PeterP's Real Neck mod in the forums.

This is the cause, and the solution.

Use this mod http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1747938&postcount=7 to enable forward/back movement in the old cockpits.

For anyone else experiencing the same problem, the fix is a lot easier than what's been posted here. I know that this thread is pretty old now but I had this same problem and needed to know how to fix it.

What happens when you install DCS and TrackIR, the axis options automatically default the "Zoom" axis to the TrackIR "Z".

All you need to do is delete the TrackIR "Z" axis control from the zoom box in the "Axis" options and then assign it to "Absolute Longitude Shift Camera View" box. Then go to "All" control options and scroll all the way to the bottom and assign a button press on your HOTAS if you wish to "Zoom In Slow" and "Zoom Out Slow".

This works for all of the FC3 aircraft as well as the T-51D and the Su-25T. It works the same way as it does in my A-10C module now.
