AI vehicles stuck on bridge north of HOSTA

I put together a small mission that involved a KA-50 escorting six vehicles from Sochi to Adler. This was mainly for flight practice so the six vehicle group and the KA-50 were the only user added objects in the mission.

 

When the vehicles came to cross the first of the two bridges south of Nov Matsesta, they simply bunched up and stopped, or bugged out is perhaps a better way to put it. I've included some images to show what happened.

 

Note: This didn't affect the automatically generated civilian traffic that simply passed through the AI vehicles and proceeded over without any collision detection evident.

I'm going to bring this one back up but expand the problem to any bridge that any AI has to cross.

 

 

One of the new missions I'm working on takes place in the general vicinity of Gali and sukhumi... and AI get stuck on bridges all over the area until none of them move anymore.

 

I can't even begin to describe how frustrating it is to put hours and HOURS into mission design... even now, making it as simple as possible only to have everything scattered by a bridge or number of bridges.

 

Is there any effort to fix this or a work around? I'd rather not have to steer each AI group around every single potential bridge they may cross but if that's the only way to do it into the foreseeable future it'd be nice to know.

Hi Eno, I just made a mission in that area with AI and had no problems. It was only 1 group travelling in convoy set to on road only. But they navigated perfectly fine every bridge they came to. I am mentioning this in case it is an advanced waypoint problem.

Eh Cibit... I have a few missions (actually all of them) where they work fine one time and get fouled up the next- it's very unpredictable. I'll have 7 groups go over a bridge just fine... then the 8th gets hung up. I've had groups with 4 vehicles bound up, and groups with 12 vehicles go over fine. Some make it over long bridges like the one north of Zugdidi and then lose half its membership over a tiny bridge.

 

This isn't after being under attack and it isn't advanced waypoint action related.

 

 

I'm certainly not meaning to say this happens all the time, every time but it happens consistently enough that it needs some additional logic to "push through" getting stuck. If the vehicle is stopped and it's not at a waypoint and not being held as a dispersal order after being shot... for 2 minutes... whatever it is that is causing it to just sit there (and in some cases resulting in 10 story tall pile ups) needs to be overridden.

This has been a problem with DCS from the beginning. If you look close at the route mapping the AI convoy will actually do a loop at the entrance to the bridge. The only way around this is to make groups of 5 or less units and have them cross the bridge at 12kph or less. If they go across slowly they can maneuver enough to get around. Some railway bridges are virtually impassable. I dont this this issue will get fixed until edge comes out.

The waypoints aren't close- but come to think of it the speeds are higher than that. I have them moving at a pretty good clip, actually. What I'll try is adding waypoints on either side and slow them down to go over the bridge and then speed them back up (but I'll keep the second waypoint far enough along so they don't get bunged up from the issue spawn is talking about... just in case).

And if it helps, its a known issue, but then I am not sure what, if any, the new mapping will do to things like this, so that might slow down fixes if its all going to get thrown out when EDGE and new map comes out, if you know what I mean.

Yes Brontolo your right. Some bridges are just impassable and you want to look for a river crossing point. If they dont fix this in EDGE, this will be a serious blow to the DCS franchise, because it discourages mission building. I dont know how many missions Ive given up on due to units not being able to traverse the map.

Yes Brontolo your right. Some bridges are just impassable and you want to look for a river crossing point. The problem is that if you have some groups make it over the bridge, but not others, its not just simply map issues.. I know there are some bridges in the game that are borked because of the map, but it doesnt always explain everything... My hopes for the future are that they have CA in their pockets now, so that will come into play when quality control looks over the map, I am sure it wasnt as big a concern when it was just aircraft only....
