New system any advice $3000USD

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I just added up the price of the components.....3021.00USD. This does not include monitors/ controllers etc just the computer. If you had 3k to spend on a computer what would you get, where, why????

I will wait before I post what I have selected and see if it is line with what you guys post. This new system will replace an older 2600K system with 2 580's in sli..tb hard drives, ssd, 1k power 8gb ram...

No doubt you'll be using the new one for more than gaming. Work related perhaps. Otherwise in my opinion with current architecture avail. I couldn't justify 3 grand for a new comp. for such a small gain. Unless the one your replacing 'DIED'

Budget Smudget....

My 8K Gaming Rig has A LOT of Custom Work in it.

Dell Ultra Sharp Screens Run $800 Each (NOW), when I bought them, they were over 1k, The Difference between Dell USharp and the $200 ASUS Screens for my $2K build is noticeable.

I have multiple systems ranging from 2k -> 8K Plus.

The most expensive system is used for Pro Series Gaming only, and has significant money invested in the cooling and accessories.

I have several "Server" Systems Running around 3k Each, 1/3 of it is mainly storage, as HDD prices inflated due to flooding. 16Core Opertons also weren't cheap for a while.

My Chevron X Pro System

Price List of Components when they were bought

(obviously the prices have gone down since some of them were Purchased)

Case: Custom Dual HAF X: $169x2

(2 HAFX Cases welded/bolted together, MB Tray of 1 is removed. to provide twice the depth. for Water Cooling and PSUs)

Mainboard: ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Pro: 189.99 (launch week)

CPU: AMD FX8350: 209.99 (launch week)(originally had a FX8120 in it)

(It will prolly be upgraded to the 5Ghz Model when availible)

Primary Graphics Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 OC: 479.99

(launch week)

Second Graphics Card: Sapphire Raderon HD 7950 OC: 299.99

(1 year later)

Third Graphics Card: Sapphire Raderon HD 7950 OC: 299.99

(1 year later)

System Memory: G.Skill 16GB DDR3-2133: 149.99

(will prolly jump to the 32 GB Mainboard MAX this summer)

Primary Harddisk: Corsair 480 GB SSD: 479.99 (OS and APPs)

Second Harddisk: Western Digital 1.5TB SATA6GB/Sec: 169.99

(Raid Array Volume A)

Third Harddisk: Western Digital 1.5TB SATA6GB/Sec: 169.99

(Raid Array Volume B)

Optical Drive: LG HD-DVD/BluRay/DVD SATA3Gb/sec (149.99)

(Discontinued in 2009)

Cooling: Custom Swiftech Loop:

3x GPU Full Cover Blks, 1xCPU Blk, 2 Chipset Blocks, 2x Radiators, 2 pumps, 1 Res, Bunch of Tubing: $965

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Plat. Fatal1ty Champion PCI

299.99 (The Core3d Chips Suck, Discontinued)

Black Magic Intensity pro 10-Bit HDMI Recording, 199.99

Track IR 4 Pro, 119.99

Dual Corsair TX PSU's, ~219x2

-1st PSU does the Mainboard/CPU+Pumps+GPU1,

-2nd PSU Drives GPUs2 and 3

Custom Wiring Allows both Units to turn on and reset with Case switches.

Switching off PSU2 while system is on, only turns off GPU2 and GPU3.

Dell Ultrasharp 27 x3 @ 1199 = 3597

(2550x4320 Portrait Array)

That came out to about $8500 ish, 8561.83

Not counting software for OS and Accessories

(ie, Flight Control Systems and Steering Wheels, KB/Mouse, and speakers/headset).

($279-$350 for CH HOTAS+Pedals, $500-$900+ for CSR Wheel+Pedals+Shifter, etc etc)

CPU Is Overclocked to 5.15Ghz on all 8 Cores, Same as my 2K System (Chevron11)(in Sig)

GPUs are all Overclocked to Matching 1.1Ghz GPU/6 Ghz Memory. (Same as Chevron11 as well)

Temps are Within Idle and Load ranges, even when the AC in the Building Failed.

You DONT wanna see the power consumption charts....

CPU INTEL CORE I7 4770K+ COOLERMASTER EISBERG

GFX NVIDIA 780GTX---> I mean why SLI if you can have 1 GPU worth 2?

Mobo ASUS MAXIMUS V GENE SOCKET 1155

16GB DDR3 dual channel.

Corsair AX850W

OCZ vertex 450 256GB SSD. (no need for the vector you wont notice the difference).

Gaming case, up to you however I wouldn't go over 200$ for it unless you want special storage, cooling upgrade possibilities.

This is a killer setup, and does not cost 3K $ (frankly a waste o money, if you want to keep on the edge just upgrade later, itll be faster for less total money spent).

New system 3k

Guys,

Thanks for the replies. Thought I would wait a couple of more days to see if anyone else wants to chime in.....I have been reading about the latest processors and overall throughput gains vs my 2600k system and comparing the difference between the two 580's and the current 780's. Seems like the difference in video cards is significant. CPU's not so much..5% or so.

Seems like a lot of folks lean towards G-Skull memory....wonder why??? Also it appears like the Haswell platforms vs the Sandy/ Ivy bridge is almost moot.

I have built a couple of AMD systems in the past but find now that they have ATI their focus has changed.....their CPU are not quite comparable to Intel.....although AMD's prices are very competitive matching speed/execution per dollar.

Hope to hear from others about this....Thanks for any input....will post what I have decided in a few days. This system is only for gaming. I have other systems for Engineering/Cad work and one lowly one I use only on the internet to avoid all the addons etc that seem to be able to latch on no matter what kind of virus/protection scheme you might have.

My pit is comming along....it is a combination/fixed wing, rotor so I may fly both types. As I have mentioned in the past I am rather partial to Russian aircraft.
