Is MS C++ 2008 redistributable really required?

Which file's that in? I can't see any mention of it in my install.

C++ 2008 redist is an old version, too old. It's not even meant to be installed on Win7 or 8 systems. Check the system requirements here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15336

metheluckydonut,

You can't say the C++ redist thing is a mess because that's just not the case at all. Including an out dated redist in an modern software package would be more of a concern. Unless you're running WinXP, Vista or Win Server 2003 the 2008 redist is a waste of space and an unnecessary DL.

Just to clarify on this for later request.

It depends on what version ED built the products on.

Some products may be built on older compilers and may require the older 2008 C++ libraries. (DLL-hell).

The 2010 DLL contains the same features as 2008, but it doesn't have the same signature. 2010 can only be used if you have compiled your products towards the 2010 DLL's.
