splash
Hi, I'm about to change my main hard disk (Operating System, programas, DCS World, Flaming Cliffs 3, etc.) for a new SSD disk. Do I need to deactivate in this cases? a) If I clone my current hard disk into my new SSD. Only changes serial number (3 points), so I think that I don't have to deactivate nor activate again (losing an activation). b) If I install Windows 7 in my new SSD from zero. Thanks. EtherealN
a) I am actually not 100% certain. This depends on how Windows would identify itself on the clone. I would deactivate just to be sure. b) Yes, deactivation would be necessary if you wish to re-use the current activation. asparagin
a) If I clone my current hard disk into my new SSD. Good luck with that, I would plan with a new system if I were you. :music_whistling: Spoiler AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, MSI MEG X570 UNIFY (AM4, AMD X570, ATX), Noctua NH-DH14, EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti XC3 ULTRA, Seasonic Focus PX (850W), Kingston HyperX 240GB, Samsung 970 EVO Plus (1000GB, M.2 2280), 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 DIMM CL16, Cooler Master 932 HAF, Samsung Odyssey G5; 34", Win 10 X64 Pro, Track IR, TM Warthog, TM MFDs, Saitek Pro Flight Rudders
EtherealN
Depending on vendor, there are tools for this. When I bought my Samsung SSD it did include tools towards cloning. I didn't use it though, so I can't say what would actually happen. asparagin
When I bought my Samsung SSD it did also include tools towards cloning. I (tried to) use it and I can say that it was a pita and from the google research done at that time, it didn´t look so good, but heck, I´m sure there are some for whom it worked. cichlidfan
I also got cloning software with one of my SSDs but I also did not use it. My philosophy is that the machine could probably benefit from a clean OS install and driver update anyway not to mention general housecleaning.
