I still havent quite figured out how increasing the DPI res over the sticks own res can result in any difference at all! Somebody explain this to me please?

It says here

http://www.tomshardware.com/2002/04/30/thrustmaster_hotas_cougar/page4.html

that

"This type of potentiometer is capable of returning more than 3,000 separate values, as opposed to the 256 that are normally returned by an electro-optical system or by standard potentiometers (which are in fact used on the other Cougar axes). In any case, with the Cougar, the signal is reduced and amplified electronically, to deliver a grand total of 65,635 separate values."

while on cougar world website which is http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/features.php it is like this:

"Capable of several thousand distinct values on the main joystick axes for much finer control in flying, adjustable via new firmware. Note that all other controllers and previous TM controllers distinguish only 256 distinct values from the joystick X and Y axes."

Anyways, I use a Cougar and there was a noticeable difference after changing that setting. So it is worth it ;).

Sweet man, that is awsome, thanks! So maybe I should set this value to 65635?

Try the 3000 setting flying the F-15. There's a noticeable difference in handling characteristics. In the MiG, the change is more subtle, but nevertheless there. I'm still glad this tip was posted regardless of the originator. Thanks to the person who figured it out AND the person who posted it.

Yeah, I only tried the SU-33, thanx for the info!

Robbie.

I saw a difference in the A-10 too, apart from that, I only got luckier with guns but cant tell exactly if theres any significat change that causes it.

I have personally found strafing ground targets to be a very good test. Low level flying would be good also.

I know that previously, I had a rough time hitting ground targets sometimes. It always seemed I would just hit around the target, it seemed I always overcorrected, and then had to go slightly the other way, even with minute movements. Now like others have said, its pretty smooth.

As a result, I have cut my deadzone down quite a bit, and now I have even better function.

From what I see in the CH Manager, axis reading is done at 8 bit (256 positions)...

But if the dpi applies to both axis of the response curve (X => joystick input Y=>"result on the plane command") Then you still gain in precision when your response curve is somewhat flat, ie usually in the center region, which is used for precision flying.

Oh dear what's all this about?

I recall my Dad once saying a few people learned how to put some bricks in the shape of a pyramid and kept it secret. Now they run our judicial services and corrupt police.... I think he called them freemasons :)

Regards

Mizzy.

Mizzy, this is totally OT, but I'd like to ask: Something's wrong with freemansons ?

I think you have read to much of these NWO boards...

kind regards,

Raven....

I think it someone was going to keep it a 'secret' only for his/her clan.. to 'gain' an advantage on over some other team for aerobatics (if the case may be) it would be kind of dishonorable ... everyone should have a somewhat fair starting point.. where it will be based on skill as much as possible... I also think if someone finds a little tweak it would be nice to just post it right away... if the guy who invented the wheel never shared it.. where would we be now! :p
