Python Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Hi Guys. Just a quick one, I purchased a set of saitek combat rudder pedals a month or so back. Unfortunately they weren't the game changer I was hoping for due to one simple reason... They slip all over the place. the whole thing moves rather than the pedals therefor not allowing for fine rudder input. Does anyone know of a decent non slip surface that I could use to put beneath them? Or any other solutions failing that? I have reduced the sensitivity. They are on glass at the minute which obviously doesn't help, this is unavoidable due to my desk set up. I will be changing my desk soon just for this reason and they will be placed onto a wooden floor. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, I'm looking forward to putting them to use. cichlidfan Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 On glass, about the best solution is going to be Velcro. blkspade Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 I remember my saitek pro flight pedal came with 2 long velcro strips. http://104thphoenix.com/
Python Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 It has the Velcro strips, haven't tried them as I didn't think they would really make much difference considering the forces involved, I will of course give it a try. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Griffin Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Yes the velcro is a must have. Otherwise they will be nearly useless.
cichlidfan Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Originally, mine were on a wood floor with two boards between them and the wall, which did work quite well. Now they are Velcro-ed to a fixed metal plate and they do not move a bit. Python Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 I'm surprised, I took one look and figured the velcro was a useless edition to the box. I will give it a try later on or tomorrow, hope it does the trick as short of bolting them to the ground (not going to happen) I'm stumped. I can't even get the P-51 off of the ground as it stands... Grim_Smiles Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Not sure if what I did will help you out in your situation, but hopefully it can give you some ideas. I didn't have any permanent options, and even though the pedals were on carpet they still slipped around a lot. The velcro didn't help me, though I'm sure me being a sasquatch doesn't improve things either. My solution is on the pic at the bottom - ignore the cables, was too lazy at the time to do better cable management with my flight sim controls. I noticed there were holes in the base, so I went to the local hardware store and picked up the shortest bungees that I could find (these are the thick rubber ones that don't have much stretch in them). I used the metal hooks on one end to hook through the holes in the base, then looped it around the metal frame of my desk. Pushed as far as the bungees allowed gave me the distance I needed, especially for my knees to clear the keyboard tray I no longer use (can't pull it out and use the pedals at same time). The pedals no longer move around on me with the bungee reinforcement. Since your setup is on glass, biggest issue is that the metal of the hooks would scratch the glass up. This would be the same for a wood floor as well. Putting a thin rubber mat underneath might prevent the hooks from scratching up anything. However, I don't know what your desk looks like, so you might not have anything to secure the bungees with. Figured I'd still drop off the suggestion on the small chance it might help. Good luck with finding a solution, can be a pain to have them slip around when in a fight. Python Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 Hi TooTall, that wouldn't work for me unfortunately as I have a wide desk... my new one will be even wider. It is however ingenious, I'm sure it will help many folk out so thank you for taking the time to reply. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
cichlidfan Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 I think you will be surprised how well it works. Velcro, duct tape and cable ties...the most useful things in my house! :D EDIT: Oh, yeah, and hot glue!! Thick8 Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 I use a tool box drawer liner from Lowes on a hardwood floor. It's the same material they make those dashboard pads from to keep your phone from sliding around. I imagine it would work on carpet as well. Picksplitter Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Hey there... personally I have an aluminum sled and simply bolted the Saitek's down. Another option might be 'non slip' pads available at any 'chandlery' (a shop dealing in boating supplies... most often used for coffee cups and dinner plates). This product can usually be cut to size. Cheap too, and allows for repositioning very easily.
